Outward Beauty

It looks so beautiful,
Stained glass windows and
picturesque steeples.
Trim grass, polished stonework.
Everything in perfect array,
Just like it should be.

Never saw it coming when
The church fell to the ground.
Always thought it had it going
'Till it came all tumbling down.
Picture perfect right to the end,
But on the inside something was broken.

Mirrored glass clear as a rainbow,
Reflecting shards of sunlit color,
Stones as smooth as still silence, and
Nothing that would hint of pain.

Never saw it coming when
The church fell to the ground.
Always thought it had it going
'Till it came all tumbling down.
Picture perfect right to the end,
But on the inside something was broken.

Everything symmetrical and
Everything so beautiful.
No one could imagine that
There could be something wrong.

Never saw it coming when
The church fell to the ground.
Always thought it had it going
'Till it came all tumbling down.
Picture perfect right to the end,
But on the inside something was broken.

No one saw it coming
No one ever thought,
The beauty could be hiding
Soft beams full of rot.
No one saw it coming,
No one could have guessed
That right beneath the outside wall,
Was a shattered, hopeless mess.
