A Spring Rain

As the old man sat rocking, watching a spring rain,
there came a strange sadness at seeing it again.
Then the smells and sounds began taking him away,
back to the place where lost memories stay.

He had grown old and forgotten some years
and as memories awoke, so did his tears.
He became angry, how could he not know
she had even existed just minutes ago?

He thought of her face and the shine in her eyes
when they made love, the sound of her cries,
The deep love she gave him, his precious sweet wife,
her memory he would keep for the rest of his life.

Then the rain disappeared and the clouds broke apart,
he wished it was that easy to mend his old heart.
It had been a long day so he would just go to bed
and hope his dreams kept her in his head.
