Rainbow Child

Skin the color of snow
with eyes red as flame
an albino who smiled

he was born deaf
and feared the sun
always he smiled
even when shunned

surrounding his eyes
skin blackened and brown
many years of abuse
from a man he called "Dad"
and yet he smiled

teeth turned yellow
from years of neglect
no one taught him
the basics of dental care
he still smiled

I too stared
at his strangeness
his multiple colors
and his radiant smile

curious as a child can be
I wrote him a note
"why are you always smiling"

He smiled
as he wrote
"I have been blessed
with many different colors
much like humanity itself"

I cried, then I smiled too!


Much of what you are reading

and the rainbow child shall
remain nameless, but he forever
smiles.......
