Sunflower (Like a)

I wish to be as strong as a sunflower.
A stalk so strong and tall - unbending and unbreakable.
A stem that stands straight and true.
Leaves that catch the rays of the glowing sun,
and profit with more strength fed by the nutrients
of vitamin D, H2O, and oxygen.
A bright head that holds itself high
and always looks to the brighter side of things.
Following the sun's smiles
and keeping up to never look down.
Roots that grow deep into the Earth
and embed itself to hold on,
stubborn but ingenious.
Even when they are frozen and dried
by the end of season it's still standing.
Still there.
Like a sunflower,
I will be strong and keep moving on.

Myst222 I love it! Personally I like the detail about the vitamin d, H2O, and oxygen. It brings out the elemental aspect of it all. Kudos!

mazerthumpkin I like this one, but I'd have to agree that the "vitamin d, h2o, and oxygen" line is pretty cheesy. no one will know what you mean unless you decide to give this poem to a biologist or something, then props to you...

browneyes33 I thought the stubborn but ingenious meant just that..It made sense to me you can both..I love the quote the only thing standing in my way of learning is my education. A.E that kinda reminded me of that quote.. Anyways I understood what you meant.. I really like this. nicely written

PoeticPang ahhhh,, now i remember,, ,, the "vitamin D, H2O, and Oxygen" part,,, is about,, what keeps the sunflower alive,,, it lives off the rays of the sun (also known as V-D)... and the oxygen it produces after feeding off the carbon and hydrogen.... LOL.... what's that process called?...hmmmmm... ah,,, uhhhhgh,, i don't know,, starts with a "P" tho,,, i know this atleast,, and as for the "stubborn but ingenious" section,,, i meant to point out how stubborn u can still be and yet have it be totally ingenious.... like how some ppl can be totally stubborn over one thing,,, and yet,, in the end,, that stubborness got them well deserved,, or something like so,, eh.... yeah,, it should be "stubborn and ingenious",, thanks hun...LOL

Qurmudjin Wonderful. The line "of vitamin d, h2o, and oxygen" kind of pulls me out of the poem. I'm not sure what you mean by "Stubborn but ingenious," as if one cannot be both? Perhaps change 'but' to 'and'?
