No Colonization for me (For Adults)

Rising To Fall

One tries in vain for vanity

Effortless endeavors for popularity

Sending one's standards up the fecal creak

For fleeting moments of synthetic alacrity

To be respected is no longer your priority

The "In" crowd can elevate you from social minorities

Those once called friends wonder when you shall see

The truth behind the veil and regain your clarity

Some decisions tend to bring some of life's harsher lessons

They knew what notes to strike within you

Paid unto you the attention 'till you feel like they get you

To their will you yielded until one day your thoughts were different

A hiccup of your suppressed self suddenly you're no good

Haste they make in the telling of your "whoredom"

Ones you emulated now brand you a whore out of sadistic boredom

Old friends lost and new ones never truly found

Lessons learned with that dice roll, reality once again is found

The price was indeed steep

The lesson learned however was far deeper

Maintain your ideals and maintain your sense of self

thugg, that line made me freeze when i read it. having lost so many over the years, it really resounded in me, and made ur already awesome poem go from awesome to friggin awesome in my eyes. i loved how this flowed, ur eyes naturally wanted to go from word to word and fought against doing anything else. i love the overall meaning of the poem, but i must disagree with the last line. i think a sense of self isnt truly found until you aren't urself, and then you appreciate who you can be. suppose the muscle theory would work with it, ur self; if you don't flex it, exercise it and test its limits, it will never reach it's full potential.

lisaljb We see through the same pupils. Take an extra look at that phrase, and you'll see more then what was just said. Odd that I typed that.

speederspider wow that's pretty deep. What if a person pretends to be whorish in order to test those who may actually pay attention to it and decipher fact from fiction? Then what?

101091 So amazingly true. I had a year or too where I forgot who I was and when I figured it out again, I had so many "friends" that walked away. It was the best lesson I'd ever learned. Excellent job.
