No Colonization for me (For Adults)

She Will Never Know

There was something I wanted to say to her for some time...
To and ‘fro I would pine over my yearning to reveal
This thing I felt she needed to know for sure
Anxiously intrigued as to how she'd handle truth's light

Dismounting from my see-sawed deliberation I chose to tell her
And attempt to I did but found I lacked the resolve
A serendipitous hindsight had cascaded before me
Showing me in earnest that my failed attempts were for the best

As if creating music from motion I'd envision us dancing
A  slow paced Viennese performed a-capella
feet bare so they may meander about the thick cotton soft grass
Peacefully entranced  in a seemingly endless midsummer's night

A pointless dream by anyone's measure of that I'm certain

Pointless to say now to you how dear she is to me
Or to admit she only saw my admiration for I hid my adoration
Became pointless for I've come to accept this truth unabashedly
I allowed myself to become drunk on disingenuous hope. A difficult truth to digest

Reality's rather direct embrace is a sobering one I must say
You know, once upon a random "ago" I'd have found that notion unsettling
Truth's clarity finds that today's "me" is largely unfazed
Present or future tense, I now know her and I can never be

What Goddess would dare mingle with a pauper hmm?
It would be most beautiful but some facets of life cannot be changed

....Damn

AlexINTJ It's very good. On some level I ended up detached while reading it. I'm not sure what that's a reflection on, but usually I'm really drawn into your writing. Maybe pacing, its solidity, or maybe it's me. Regardless of that, your associations and vocabulary speak of your caliber. How you pulled it together and articulated yourself, also to the same standard. I also love how you ended it, which is a highlight to me.

CollinRebuke It's great, Doug, but it could really use punctuation to make it more fluent. Example: "And attempt to I did(,) but found I lacked the resolve(.)" Proper punctuation isn't only the demesnes of prose, and it'll make your poems even better.
