It's Not Enough

Who am I?
That question burns me
more than words can show
because I want to know
what about me is so bad
that I can be left by my dad?
Time and time again
no matter what phase I'm in
and my friends think they see me
but they only see what I want to be.
They don't know where I'm from
how I am what I've become
and the one person, one and only
who really knew has left me lonely.
My own brother turned and left me
am I so much more than I see?
I'm so torn and confused
because I've been broken and so used
no matter how hard I try
I cannot prove myself, I cannot climb so high.
This day, this minute, I wonder why I breathe
I cannot find a reason to believe
or a reason why I have been so betrayed
so quickly judged and weighed.
Why when love is supposed to be blind
I am surronded by those so refined
that they can only see every error in me
and needle and poke, leaving no room to breathe.
Soon they will close that last distance
and I will have no more resistance
I will know just as my heart stops beating
that I wasn't enough, not even for a moment so fleeting.
