Obligation
It’s this heavy thing
dragging me on
always pressing
never fully gone.
It pulls me from my bed
drags my hand through my hair
tears paths through my head
because I can’t help but care.
It drives my breathing
moves my feet
leaves my pulse seething
keeps the steady beat.
Thrumming in my chest
this smooth meter
red muscle that can’t rest
I can’t deny, it makes life sweeter.
Because no man is an island
and I couldn’t be alone
you would understand
if my eyes were your own.
