Breach
The hostile fortress assembled through sweat and blood
Stood strong through time against elements unwavering
Yet the guard sounds the alarm to announce a breach
As an unnoticed crack in the jagged wall is penetrated
Moat of slimy hatred not enough to ward off intruder
Nor steadfast gates locked and rusted centuries ago
Through the thorns in the courtyard he tiptoed gently
The steep and rotten steps climbed with anticipation
His eyes danced with delight as the tower door flung wide
Lock and bolt not enough to ward off his nimble touch
And he sees her in slumber of hopeless dreams
Brushes cobwebs away to edge nearer to his prize
With glint in his eyes he pressed softly on lifeless lips
Caused existence to burst out with sharp intake of breath
Yet before she could even begin to identify the prowler
She clutched her chest in agony and deep bewilderment
Her precious jewel encased in steely armoured safe
Snatched carelessly by thief in the dark of the night
And so her heart breaks
