The Usual Suspects
Was it you who put my head in a vice?
I feel it caving in
When believing I had this game in hand
Once again I didn’t win
Did you trick me into this misted fog?
Or was this where I began?
Evaluating the risk against reward
It still didn’t go to plan
Can I blame you for my twisted thoughts?
I didn’t get here alone
Each of you had hand in leaving me
Aching to the bone
So I line you up, the usual suspects
Ready to pay account
For all the ways you toyed and teased
Chewed up and spat me out
What would you say in your defence
As your crimes were tallied up?
What line would you use to wriggle out
Of drinking from this cup?
Little you know of consequence
And so instead I pay
With battered heart and distant dreams
As another walks away
