It starts with a beat
a heart beat
the bass
and the drums quicken my pulse
With each chord
from the guitar
my breath
grows shallow and rhythmic
The piano notes make
my nerves tingle
i smile
when the melody plays
As the singer's voice
rises and falls
my own
strains to join in
If the music stops
for a moment
I am
nothing but silence.
