Behind Blue Eyes

i know that i look strong.
broad shoulders,
big arms.
strong legs,
square jaw.
does that make me strong?

carrying the weight i carry on a daily basis.
family burdens,
friends,
work and stress,
with no apparent signs of struggle.
does that make me strong?

taking a look inside we see the answer is no.
smiling outside,
crumbling within.
living and breathing physically,
emotionally dead.
no, im not that strong.

i compare my life to a tractor pulling a ton.
gaining ground,
slowly and painfully.
making progress yes,
but not without struggle.

a mere dot in this world i wonder whats in store for me.
kids?
a wife?
a happy home?
grandkids?
only time can answer that.

feeling my way through the dark cave called life.
lost,
confused,
scared,
will i emerge?
only time can answer that.

one day i will see through the smog of life.
today,
tomorrow,
next week,
next year.
these blue eyes will see the day.

she'll be standing there waiting for me. a dream come true.
arms open,
smiling,
glowing,
calling my name.
