Darkness

My numbing heart of swollen pain,

Throbbing waiting, for the night.

What is this choice that I have made,

And should, I want, to deem it right.

An empty lie I live, I tell,

A soulless mind that toddles on,

A quiet cry to pave my path,

Of what is right or what is wrong.

Where do I place my eyes at night?

Behind the lids of obscurity?

Where hands of shadows move like a wave,

To dampen my only security.

They watch my every move,

And control my every breath,

And if I do not drink from there darkness,

They will never let me rest.

I see you in the distance,

With shaking hands and eyes of tears.

Were is your fist of faith,

To chase away my fears?

When will the sun begin to rise,

Will I watch it all alone?

And even though I know what’s right,

To darkness I am prone.
