I don't own you

I own a bookshelf in my room
I own the clutter in my room
I own the bed that’s in my room
I own the things that are in my room
But when you step inside my room
I know I don’t own you
You’re not in my possession

I bought a CD just last week
A funny key ring and a DVD
I bought them with my own money
I like to think I can afford these things
But when you step inside my room
I know I can’t afford you
You’re not in my possession

Sometimes I do an honest deed
Help those who often are in need
Like to keep in touch with charity
But won’t you please help me
When you step inside my room
I know I need you
Not just as a possession

I know I don’t own you
But if it makes you happy
You can own me instead
Just step inside my room
And make me your possession

When you step inside my room
I know I don’t own you
You’re not in my possession
[[But I wish you were]]

When you step inside my room
I know I don’t own you
You’re not in my possession
[[I really wish you were]]
