Masks

You see the mask that's on his face?

That mask of elegance and grace?

He'll wear it till he's turned to stone

Showing a face that's not his own

An actor on the stage of life

His being caught in drama's strife

He's who he wants to be today

The next day someone else he'll play

To someone he's an Oxford man

A gentleman born in Japan

Or maybe he's a royal heir

Of kingly kings far off somewhere

"We wear the mask that grins and lies"

To no one are we butterflies

Woe be to find a man who's real

Someone who needs no mask to steal
