Altered Heaven |
Beautiful Thorns
The roses bloom upside down
As the waves wash upon my bare legs-
Covering pureness that echoes across the distance.
It reflects the love in my heart,
A love so true that time would stand back and watch with great awe
As arms enclose one another.
Then the waves will no longer come,
Leaving my bare legs covered with chills-
In spite of the warm, windless day.
The petals on the roses no longer look beautiful,
And now more than ever the thorns jut out-
As if yearning to be touched,
And to feel that soft red warmth flowing slowly down the stem.
Now time no longer stands still,
For the love is no longer pure.
A feeling of emptiness fills me as I look into the years ahead,
As if to foretell my future.
Wading into the water
Is like a resurrection for my body,
And I push the roses out of my mind-
The once beautiful petals and the thorns jutting out,
As if yearning for that one touch.
