Lingering

Your cold hands hold me close,

I struggle frantically to break free.

It's just too much to take,

My emotions overpower me.

You're clinging on to consciousness

While I hold back my tears.

The smell of this hospital is haunting me.

I've been dreading this moment for almost three years.

The word goodbye lingers in my head,

But I won't say it - I promise.

Never thought you could break me down

With something as simple as a goodbye kiss.

I want to thank you for everything you've done for me.

You don't think it's much, but I'm not the same

As I was before you entered my life.

It sucks that you're going but I'm glad that you came.

I know we're young and that I'll move on,

But before I do, you should know I have no doubt

I'll always love you, and as your life fades out,
