Cello

Something happens inside me

As the bow touches down

The metal of the strings give way

And produce a glorious sound

A vibration flows through the wood

A sound that is velvety soft

And everything that I was taught

Floats away with the waves

None of it matters

As I press myself into the instrument

My heart flowing into the music

My life coming out in notes and chords

And I’m not thinking of scales

Or patterns

I’m not thinking of anything

A beautiful feeling runs through me

My heart stopping

Like falling in love over and over again

I can’t breathe

The intensity overcomes me

And I am one with the instrument

And the songs I play are me

And the feelings, the meanings, are mine

The notes climb together

Higher and higher

The climax awaiting

And then springing to life

And I am that climax

I am those notes going higher

Telling stories through sound alone

I feel alive, excited, something amazing

A feeling I have never felt

Before this moment

And then the end comes

A slow solemn note

And that note is me too

Saying goodbye

And the bow comes off the strings

The audience applauds

And with cello in my hand

I leave the stage

A calm feeling overwhelming me

The instrument shines in the light

And it is more beautiful than any person

More beautiful than life itself

Because it is life

It is my life

And I am its

We are one
