Are animals more sensitive than humans?

I've noticed how my best friends dog likes to cuddle up in my arms everytime I go over to their house. More than likely for an animal it's a feeling of security and comfort, kinda like when you're holding your lover in your arms. You feel safe am I right? I've also noticed how my bird screams when I don't give him the attention that he wants. As a matter of fact, when I take too long to notice him he gets louder with every scream then starts flapping his wings really hard. No different from when I child wants attention from his mother right? Are animals more subject to emotions and feelings than humans are capable of?
