I see your point. You are a very organic person, which is to be admired, really. :)

'What possible truth could I glean from books that are thousands of year old, mis-translated and contradictory?'

This is where the natural mind and intuition work together. Have you ever had an experience where you read something and it just jumped out at you? Perhaps you thought consciously or even subconsicously, 'That is really true'. Every day, we as human beings are bombarded by information and we file it away somewhere in our hearts and minds. This is one way to discover ourselves and our connection to the universe. But, what of deliberate study? There is a place for that, too. The balance is struck between organic gleaning and deliberate study. When we with intent read or subject ourselves to a particular study, we are trusting that our own intution is at work to find the possibly small nugget of personal truth in it. The one method is passive, the other intentional. Both are necessary, I believe, to make the most of our learning.

Kubrick could never finish a story. really. even the ones he did...the ending sucked. what good is a story with out a proper ending? (and he died before the ending of the cinimatic version of AI.)

Beatoven once said to a violinist that complained that his writing of the music was too hard to perform "I'm sorry if when I was comunning with GOd that I didn't take into consideration you and your measily violin" or something like that...you calling Shakespeare irelevant is to me the same as Britney Spears saying she don't know howz to devide a frakshon?

I live by my natural instincts. I don't need someone else to tell me what's right and wrong. I just go with what my body feels. I learn from my experiences and what is relevant to me and the world I live in. What possible truth could I glean from books that are thousands of years old, mis-translated and contradictory?

Kubrick was one of the most meticulous perfectionists in cinema so I have no idea where you got that assumption from. And I don't get what you mean by 'with a story completed' either.

Trust me, there are plenty of people who 'don't understand' Shakespeare by your terms. How can we anyway? His stuff is 500 years old and practically in a different language. How can you expect the common man to relate to it?

Oh, my. I am sorry. I hit spam on accident. hahahhaa.

What makes you think you would be brainwashed? I think it takes a great deal of mental fortitude to read and study many faiths and philosophies with the express intent of learning what each has for one's own path. Now that is an ambitious project. Sometimes it might be like looking for a needle in a haystack, perhaps, but that is not a bad thing. Would you rather have someone hand you your own truth, rather than looking for it yourself? If so, how is that different from the one who goes to sit in his pew at church every Sunday and lets the preacher tell him what to believe? No, I think it best to study and seek all avenues presented. How else can you be certain you are hearing and believing what is really necessary to you?

I will look Larkin up...but Kubrick I found lazy. he didn't even have the desantcy to die with a story completed. I say in time because if more people like you exist that dont' understand shakespear...in two hundred years when Hannah Montana is the penultimate genius in society...kubrick will look pretty impressive.

And anyway, why in a few hundred years? Why do we have to wait that long? Surely all that matters now is NOW?

There is truth in everything. You must be careful not to throw the baby out with the bathwater, friend. Religion is not my cup of tea, either. I prefer to just walk in love. But, great thoughts are espoused by religious and secular people, alike. If one is prejudiced against one or the other, one will likely miss some great wisdom, I think.

Admittedly the ending of ACO is inferior to that of the book which did round things off in a much more satisfying manner. That was Kubrick's flaw, he failed to see good in most people. Besides that, watch the final scene of 'Paths Of Glory', much more emotional than anything Shakespeare could cook up. And I could write an essay about each of his films but I won't cuz its 3am.

Philip Larkin was a poet. It's good stuff you should look him up.
