I am scared a bit.

My friend Jon who just got back from Afgahn, came over today to say hi and hang out for a bit, when all of the sudden he looks at me and asked me if i was gonna be at his funeral because he fears that he is going to be killed in battle when he goes back on sunday.

My occupation in the Army had about a 10 second life expectancy if we were discovered. Fear and anxiety is part of the life of a soldier, even the most stalwart officers and enlistee's have to face those tribulations.

But regardless of anything else, this is the life that your friend chose for himself. Duty is heavier than a mountain, death lighter than a feather.

his father served, as did his older brother, he wanted to continue the legacy. He doesn't want to die, but he has a feeling that he is going to.

My friend died in Afghanistan... but honestly, it was something that he was willing to accept would happen. He viewed his Marine service as something to live and die for.

Why did your friend enlist in the armed forces if he didn't want to die?

he is a cheerful person at heart, but he thinks that he won't make it past his second year in the forces.

he'll be okay:)....but i'd try to cheer him up a little because if he believes he will die then he will and that sucks :(

If a friend of mine said that to me, I would also be concerned. His fear would obviously be natural, but that type of overt concern would set off warning bells - granting the nature of his environment.
