Which Side Are You On? *Part 52*

“You may have scared me before, but I am not afraid this time. You’re unstable. You cant even control your powers. How dangerous can you be?”

            “More dangerous than any normal demon.”

            Ugh…Sovira  wanted to pounce on both of them. Someone was getting hurt here and it wasn’t Syth. Please don’t kill him, she begged in her mind. Where was Ahx when you needed him.

            Syth looked at her sorrowfully. She knew he was trying to control himself, but how much longer could he take?

            “What do you want with my girlfriend?” Markus continued.

            He should know what’s best for him.

            “There is nothing going on between us, Markus.” Syth’s tone was raising.

            “Oh, really. Then what were you saying before I came in?”

            “Neither me or Sovira are like that.”

            “I see the way you look at her. Do you think I’m stupid! And you admitted it yourself that you like her.”

            “I can’t help that Markus! But I can turn away from it! Which is what we were both doing before this stubborn asshole walked in!” He said and gestured toward Markus. He was yelling now. How much longer until he completely snapped? Sovira wondered. What could she do?

            “Are you calling me a stubborn asshole?”

            “Why don’t you get out of here before it’s too late, Markus. Be smart.”

            “I’m not afraid of you!” Markus retorted.

            Oh, you will be in a minute, Sovira thought - her heart beating frantically. You’ll be more than afraid. She knew how it was to face Syth when he snapped - to look into his eyes, to be in his presence. It was like facing the devil himself.

            “You want to say that again?”

            “Just leave my damn girlfriend alone or else!”

            “Or else what?”

            Markus balled his hands in fists. oh, no. Sovira felt a lump form in her throat. Don’t do this Markus.

            “Just stop it guys, please,” Sovira tried to beg, but she was too late.

            Markus had launched a punch toward Syth’s face. Syth quickly sidestepped and hurled a hard punch into Markus’s ribs. Then another into the side of his face. Then he grabbed Markus by the hair.

            By this moment, Sovira knew he had snapped. She didn’t have to see his red eyes to figure that out. Why did Markus have to be so stubborn? Now his life was on the line.

            “Syth, please,” she begged.

            He glanced at her. His fearsome red eyes made her flinch. He looked back at Markus.

            “Now, I’m going to give you one more chance to get out of my room and leave me alone.”

            “Screw you!” Markus shouted. He was struggling to get free of Syth’s hold when Syth lurched another punch into his gut.

            “I’m not playing games with you!”

            “When I get free, you are dead!”

            Syth threw another punch into his gut. This time Markus spat up blood. How hard was Syth hitting him? Sovira wondered.

            “Syth, please,” she begged again.

            “Will you leave if I let you go?” Syth asked.

            “Not until I kill you!”

            Was he on drugs? Sovira wondered. Human + Demon = Dead Human. Did he not realize what was going to happen to him if he kept on?

            Syth punched him in the ribs this time. Maybe he thought a change of target would change his mind.

            “Markus, I don’t want to do this!”

            “You stupid, unstable demon! You know you’re enjoying this, or you would let me go by now!”

            He punched him in the ribs again and Markus spat up more blood.

            “Or is that because you like to see Sovira in pain?”

            “I’ll kill you!” Syth had completely lost it now.

            He punched Markus again in the ribs. Then again and again repetitively. Sovira heard a crack. She became slightly queasy.

            “Syth…please…stop,” she begged while taking deep breaths.

            He was still pounding on Markus. Punch after punch, Sovira watched. Markus couldn’t take much longer. She heard another crack.

            “Stop it, Syth! Please! You’re going to kill him!”

            “He deserves this!”

            “Stop it!”

            She ran to Syth and pulled on his arm.

            “Let him go!”

            He shoved Sovira away. She fell backwards into the floor. Now, Syth was punching him in the face. When would this end? When would he be satisfied? When he was dead?

            “I warned you, Markus!” Syth yelled.

            “Syth, if you love me, then stop this!” Sovira begged with tears streaming down her cheeks.

            “You want me to stop?” Syth shouted at her.

            “Syth, stop!” Ahx came to the rescue once again. “Think about what you’re doing.”

            Sariin and Hermione were right behind. They were wide-eyed in shock, but who could blame them? Markus was covered head to toe in blood and bruises. He was barely alive.

            Syth paid them no attention. He lurched on.

            “Syth,” Ahx growled in disapproval.

            “Fine! Is this what you want, Ahx?”

            Syth lifted Markus up and tossed him toward the window.  Sovira flinched at the sound of the breaking glass.

            “Markus!” she screamed in tears as she jumped up off the floor.

            “Syth!” Ahx, Sariin, and Hermione screamed in unison.

            “Now gravity is in charge of his life,” Syth said.

            Sovira ran to the window. Wind hit her in the face as she looked down at Markus’s lifeless body on the ground.

            “No!” she cried.

            Sariin ran to her and hugged her.

            “I’m so sorry, Sovira”

            “I…I…” she couldn’t speak through her sobbing. “Oh, Sariin.” She embraced her back.

            In the corner or her eye she saw Ahx and Hermione standing by Markus’s body. They were discussing something. Sovira couldn’t tell what it was.

            “You don’t…happen to have…super hearing…do you?” Sovira asked between sobs.

            “No?” Sariin said puzzled. “Why?” she asked as she glanced out the window. “Oh, hey, I’ll be right back. Something isn’t right.”

            “What? What isn’t right?”

            “I don’t know. Hermione said to come down. She can’t explain it.”

            Oh. Hermione. “Can I come too?”

            “Are you sure?”

            “Just for a few minutes. I won’t look.”

            “Okay, just stand behind me.”
