“What are the possibilities?”
“Well, unless he’s really a demon, but I don’t think that’s possible. He wouldn’t be so clueless.”
“Unless he’s in on it all. And he’s just pretending to be like this, waiting for the right time.”
“Could be, but I don’t see it. He’s completely human. There’s no way,” Ahx said only half-way convinced he was human.
“But with everything going on, it’s hard to know what to think or what to believe.”
“I agree with that,” Sovira said, “but I disagree with my boyfriend being a demon. We’ve been together for six months now.”
“Maybe he was using you to get information to give to Karamys. Think about it. He’s still alive. And no one is showing any signs of even trying to kill him.”
“You’re right,” Sariin agreed, seeing his point.
“But…” Sovira still didn’t believe her boyfriend was a demon. He just couldn’t be.
“Or,” Hermione said, walking in on the conversation. “He could be a devil in disguise. Devils are different than we demons. Their power comes in all shapes and sizes. They are much stronger and smarter than us.”
“Some of them,” Ahx disagreed.
I’m guessing humans are the dumbest of them all? Sovira thought.
“I mean power-wise,” Hermione said. “Devils have much more strength than us and they also seem to understand the full extent of their powers and are able to use them to their utmost capabilities.”
“So, what you are saying is that Markus is a devil because he is able to disguise himself as a human so well? I don’t understand,” Sovira said, completely befuddled.
“I’m just saying that if Markus isn’t human, then he is most likely a devil.”
“But Karamys is only a demon, and he’s pretty smart himself,” Sariin said.
“Karamys is at a downfall,” Sovira disagreed. Every time she heard that name, fire burned in her eyes. Her hatred for him was strong. “I believe Damien has outsmarted him.”
“So that proves my point,” Hermione went on. “Devils are smarter than demons.”
“Only some,” Ahx disagreed again.
“Ahx, it’s a proven fact they are.”
“Not all are.”
“Most are.”
Sovira sighed. She couldn’t believe they were arguing over this. Something so small at a time like this. She also couldn’t believe they were contemplating over what Markus was. He was human. She knew that. Why couldn’t they believe that? Was that such an impossibility? I mean sure, he just survived a three story fall while being thrown out a window with three cracked ribs, but people got lucky. Miracles happen.
“That may just be it, but I believe it’s something else,” Ahx said.
“Okay, so I think he’s human, you think he’s a demon, and Hermione thinks he’s a devil. What about you Sariin?”
“I actually believe it could be any of the possibilities. There’s no way to know for sure. We just have to wait and see.”
“Maybe I should go and talk to him.”
“Maybe someone should go with you,” Ahx said.
“Oh, come on, Ahx. Markus is harmless.”
“I’m not so sure anymore. He could have been pretending this whole time.”
“But he wasn’t.”
“You don’t know that.”
“And you don’t know that I’m not just pretending to be some helpless human just to lure you into this game and kill you.”
“Maybe we should put restraints on you then.”
“Ahx, I am not a part of this game. You know that. And Markus isn’t either. Can’t you just read his mind to find that out?”
“He could be putting every thought there for me to read just so I will think he’s a normal human.”
“Listen to yourself. You are so naïve.”
“How else did he survive that fall?”
“Luck?”
“Even luck wouldn’t save him from that.”
“Well, then what if someone broke his fall or saved him?”
“What demon would have a heart enough to save a random human? We are the only civilized demons here, Sovira. You need to face that fact. This world isn’t like yours.”
“I’m beginning to understand that. But like Sariin said, we are discussing all of the possibilities.”
“And any of them could be true,” Sariin butted in. “Maybe there’s even one we’re not considering.”
Sovira groaned. “I’ve had enough of this.” She strode off into the kitchen to get a drink of water. Then she splashed some water on her face.
This is all to confusing, she thought to herself. Markus is only human, like me. I don’t know what happened out there, but he’s human. He survived by some miracle. Honestly, none of their theories make sense. None of it’s really even logical. Then again, this whole world isn’t logical. What have I been brought into to? When am I going to wake up from this dream?
“How many times do you ask yourself that?” A deep voice asked. It was Syth’s voice.
