~CHAPTER 24~
MOONLIT ROSE
“Lie still. It’ll only hurt for a second,” Syth told her as he stood over her on the table. His eyes were red again.
“Hurt?” she said frightened.
She tried to jump off of the table, but Syth quickly jolted his hand on her stomach, shoving her back down into the table.
“Just a slight sting. No worry.”
What was he going to do? She wondered. He brought his face to her neck, breathing in her scent.
“You smell lovely.”
Her heart was thudding uncontrollably. Breathe, Sovira, breathe, she told herself. He’s not going to hurt you. She gasped as she felt a sharp pain in her neck.
Oh, my god. Her room came into view.
She sat up in her bed. What an odd dream. Can’t I ever have any normal dreams? All this demon drama is bad for my health.
She shook it off and pulled the covers off of her. She noticed something in the corner of her eye. A rose lied on the pillow next to her. What’s a rose doing on my pillow? She picked it up and set it in the vase on her night table. She was about to get up and fill the vase with water before she noticed rose petals on the floor. They created a line from her bed to the door. She set the vase down and knelt down to the floor. She scooped up a handful of petals then dropped them.
They were real.
She stood up and followed the trail to her door and opened it. She couldn’t believe her eyes. There were more petals. These petals lead down the hallway. She followed them until they lead her to Syth’s room. His door was open.
She smiled. What was Syth up to?
She followed the trail inside his room and beyond curtains that revealed a balcony. She walked to the end of the balcony where a rose lied still on the rail. She picked it up as she gazed into the night sky. She just realized she must have woken up in the middle of the night. Something else took her by surprise. There was a full moon in the sky. She didn’t know that they had a moon here. It was big and gorgeous and slightly different than hers.
She took in the fresh air as she gazed at the moon. It was about the only normal thing in this world. She liked it. For once she could feel normal. It almost felt as if she were back in her world.
She felt something touch her lightly on her waist. She turned around to see Syth. He wrapped his arms around her waist and smiled at her.
“I didn’t know you had a moon here,” she said while trying to breathe at the same time.
There her heart went fluttering away again. Did he know how amazing he was?
“I know. That’s why I wanted to show you.”
She smiled at him. He was being so sweet and romantic. She never saw Syth like that. It left her struck at a loss for words. Syth chuckled at her reaction.
“You are so breathtaking,” he said and leaned his head to her neck, nuzzling his nose up and down her soft skin while taking in her feminine scent.
She giggled. “It’s passion fruit.”
“It smells so delicious,” he said and licked her neck.
“Eww,” she said and laughed. She pushed his face away and wiped off the slobber.
“Sorry,” he apologized. “I’m drooling over your beauty.”
She laughed at his flattery as he tugged her in closer to him.
“Syth, I-” she tried to say, but he put a finger over her lips.
“Silence, my sweet love. Let’s just enjoy this moment.”
She gazed into his adoring eyes as his lips neared hers. She knew what he wanted, and there was no denying she wanted it just as bad, but…
Her thoughts fluttered away as their lips met for a passionate kiss. She couldn’t help but to give in.
But the consequences, her broken off thought re-entered her mind and she quickly pulled away.
“Syth, we can’t.”
“Don’t worry. It won’t happen.”
“What if it does?”
“Then you will stop me.”
“How can I-”
He interrupted her with another kiss. She slightly laughed as she gave in. He was so adorable. How could she resist him? Everything about this moment was so perfect. It was normal, and happy. She wouldn’t give it up for anything. Even knowing the consequences she couldn’t fight against it anymore. She was in Syth’s arms and she wasn’t budging. Why worry at all?
That thought quickly shifted aside as she felt something soft and feathery with her hands. Oh, no. She didn’t want to open her eyes. This moment was too perfect. If she opened them her perfect, happy place would fade away and terror would set in taking its place. She didn’t want it too fade just yet.
His kiss got fiercer and he was holding her tighter as if he were afraid she would slip away. The way her heart was fluttering she almost half-believed it. She finally opened her eyes when she was ready enough to handle the fear. As she thought, terror settled in over the perfect happiness.
Oh, god.
She stared into his eyes while noticing all his featured in her peripheral vision. Black wings, red eyes, coal black skin, and red tattoos. It was his complete demon form.
“Syth,” she said getting his attention. “How do you feel?”
He smiled at her. “Wonderful.”
“Anything else?”
He smirked as he leaned his head to her neck again. “Well, I am kind of hungry,” he said breathing in her scent.
Her heart raced as a lump formed in her throat. She could feel his warm breath on her neck. She had no earthly idea what to do, but she knew she had to do something or she might end up like those girls Sariin mentioned. That wasn’t a good mental picture.
“Syth,” she said as she pulled her head away.
“Yes?” He stared into her eyes. His gaze sent chills down her spine.
Shake it off, she told herself. It’s just Syth. Same old Syth.
He chuckled. “You’re afraid of me,” he stated as he pulled her in to his chest. It was soft and warm. It felt nice to her, but this couldn’t go on.
She tried to find her scattered thoughts as her heart thumped hard against her chest.
“You love me right?”
“Of course.”
“Then concentrate.” She wasn’t sure if this would work or not, but it always worked in the movies so it couldn’t hurt to try.
He looked at her bemused.
“Say it.”
“I love you,” he leaned his head back down to her neck.
“Syth,” she said worried. She was afraid this was her end. “Syth, I love you, please.” Her heart raced so hard it gave her a headache.
He brought his head up and took a step back as he looked at her sorrowfully. His wings disappeared into his back and he took another step back. He groaned and held his head as the tattoos and coal black skin faded away and his eyes returned to their normal green color. He took another step back and groaned as he slowly let go of his head. He blinked a few times and rose his head up. When he looked at Sovira he flicked backward and shook his head in disbelief and bewilderment.
“I’ve never done that before.”
She smiled at him. “You did it.” She was happy for him. This meant that there was hope after all. “Are you thinking what I’m thinking?”
“No, Sovira. This doesn’t mean I can control it.”
“I know, but it means there’s hope.”
“Maybe.”
“Come on. You said it yourself, you’ve never done it before, so we must be getting somewhere.”
“Maybe.”
“Is that all you have to say? That’s no way to act after what you just did.”
She walked up to him and put her hand on his cheek as she moved in for a kiss, but Syth pulled her hand away.
“No,” he said strictly as she pouted. “It could happen again.”
“But I stopped you then,” she tried to persuade him.
“I don’t want to risk it.” She groaned. “I’m sorry.”
“If this happens every time we kiss then how do we…”
“I don’t know.”
“How do I love you like this?”
“Mentally, emotionally.” He gave her a simple answer.
She groaned. She wanted him physically. He was so mesmerizing and irresistible. How could she only share her mental emotions? This was completely unfair.
He chuckled. “You’re grumpy. You need sleep.”
“I do not,” she disagreed.
“You’re tired.”
“I’m completely fine.”
“Go to sleep, Sovira.”
“Only if you’ll lay with me.” She gave her sweetest smile.
He laughed. “You’re reckless.”
“Me reckless?” She acted innocent as she grabbed his hand and dragged him down the hall. “We’ve got nothing to worry about.”
He sighed and shook his head. “I hope, for your sake.”
She laughed. “You just think about it too much.”
“I just don’t want to hurt you.”
“Trust me, Syth. You won’t.”
They made it to her room.
“How can you say that? He asked as they sat down on her bed.
“I have faith in you.”
“Too much for your own good.”
“Lighten up. This was meant to be a good night, right?”
He looked at her and smirked as he shook his head like he thought she was completely insane. She might have been. He was a demon, a devil, and more. She was human. He was dangerous, she harmless. He wasn’t in control half the time and to top it off she loved him.
They lied down in her bed. She rested her head on his chest. It was masculine, but still soft. He put his arm around her.
“You’re amazing,” she said. “How you come up with these ideas.”
“I just want you to be happy.”
She smiled. She was happy. For once in her life she really was. It was like the whole world didn’t matter or that all the weight on her shoulders was lifted when she was with him. She listened to his heartbeat in his chest. It was like a song putting her to sleep. It was comforting.
“I love you,” Syth said, but she had already fallen asleep.
