The Reckoning
Chapter Three
AUTHOR NOTES: Okay, once this story is posted, I’m going to do a chapter of The Last Stand and then a chapter of Change and then The Reckoning. That’s the order from now on. One chapter of The Last Stand, and then Change and then the Reckoning. Rinse and repeat. Unless, I have writer’s block then I’ll inform you!

There was only two ways to kill a Dravor without killing yourself in the process. One is to stab them directly in the heart with a golden stake—like pure gold, fake gold wont do any damage—or set them on fire and watch their horrible darkness burn to a crisp. The only horrid thing in this situation was we didn’t carry a golden stake to a New Year’s party; it was stashed in my suitcase, and we did have matches in case; but drunken Stark used them to light some drunken girl’s cigarettes at the party. It’s not his fault; he’s just not responsible. There’s only one way to kill a Shadow for good without it becoming a Dravor; to suck their soul away as they scream in agony. Sucking souls away was Cale’s power and that’s how he executed. It was a horrible, painful process; I’ve had it happened to me once. Before, Cale was born from his mother Jordan, his father Caleb tried to murder me by sucking my soul away, but he only took half of my soul away before Hailey killed him with a golden stake. That’s how we met and I bet you’re wondering, why in bloody hell was Caleb trying to kill you? I was trying to kill Jordan because I knew that Cale was going to be evil. Might as well kill her too; since she was a Dravor; but she got away and Cale was born. You’re also probably wondering, if this happened before Cale was born, shouldn’t you be an old granny? I don’t age; like those idiotic vampire stories. Vampires are fiction and Dravors and Shadows are reality. The reason why Stark can’t see my future is because I have half of soul; not enough soul to see. Anyway, back to the present.
I rolled to my hind legs and launched myself at Rose as wind blew around her, I successfully tackled her to the ground and I felt lighting hit me in the back. I whimpered as she pushed her hands against me, and I was airborne as I hit a large tree. It snapped in half at the pressure and I took in a deep breath as I shimmered into my wolf form. I licked the blood away with my wrist.
I saw Hailey trying to protect herself as a large Dravor wearing a black cloak tried to grab her. I smiled when three skeletons started to dig themselves out of the ground as Hailey kept communicating. Stephen used his demon power to throw four Dravors in a tree.
After, the blood was gone, I launched myself at Rose and she shrieked as I bit onto her arm. She screamed for her guards and I felt two meaty hands grab my hind legs and started to drag me.
I growled and shimmered into my American eagle form and flew up on top of the tree, deciding my next move as more skeletons dug themselves out of the ground and fought.
I shimmered down to my mountain form and jumped from the tree landing on Rose. She was my target. Kill the leader, destroy the clique, although I had to kill Cale soon enough.
I watched as Stark waved me over and I ran towards him, leaving Rose withering in pain from my claws landing on her head. Stark looked around and kneeled towards me.
“Stephen going to break all the trees in half,” Stark told me in a hushed voice. “Get Hailey out of here, they won’t be hurt for long, but like you said. Long enough to escape.” He smiled and I nodded my head.
I ran towards Hailey, shimmering down to my human form. She looked at me for a moment, and paused. I groaned and grabbed her wrist and pulled her on my back as I changed into mountain lion form and took off down the valley of no return with Stark behind me and suddenly, all the trees broke around us and one just happened to fall on me.
Blackness surrounded me, as my vision faded. My last memory was Rose pointing to my human form—when I’m injured seriously, I go back to my human form—and said, “Take her to Cale,” I blacked out.
