Chapter three
Two friends, two movies and one mistake
Justin’s mother looked up the stairs when she saw something from the corner of her eye.
"Oh hi, Cassie" Justin mother said when she realized that it was her.
Cassie walked down the stairs and over to her before giving her a hug.
"Hey, Mr. and Mrs. Hampton, how are you guys?" Cassie asked
"We’re great" Justin’s father replied with a smile.
"You look beautiful Mrs. Hampton." Cassie said .
"Thank you, today is our fifteen years anniversary." She replied in a proud tone.
Cassie smiled and said "Well congratulations." Followed by receiving a "Thank you sweetie." From Justin’s mother. Justin, However walked out of the kitchen with and bowl of Popcorn and two soda pops in his hand. "Hey mom and dad, Cassie’s staying over."
"No problem" Justin’s father replied.
"Are you ready, Cassie?"
Justin asked as he headed up the stairs.
"Sure"Cassie replied before turning back around and facing his parents. "Well, goodnight"
"Good night, Cassie" they both replied.
Cassie turned around and headed up the stairs behind Justin. Once inside the room Justin popped in the first movie "National treasure" It got boring really quick so they took it out. Justin and Cassie gave each other a half an hour break to get into their pj’s. Next Justin put in "Iron man" They watch the entire movie. Two hours and two bowls of popcorn later it was time too watch "Mirrors". Justin popped in the DVD and heading down stairs for two more soda. By time he came back the main menu was on and it was time to hit play. "Is this movie really scary?" Cassie asked
"I don’t know, I haven’t watch it yet." Justin responded
Justin handed Cassie her soda and sat his on the opposite nightstand before hitting play. Twenty minutes into the movie and Cassie was already shivering and biting her nail with nervousness. "Calm down, Cas, its just a movie." Justin said. Cassie stopped biting her nails and sat up. Thirty more minutes into the movie Cassie had covered her ears and closed her eyes, because she was convinced that something scary was about to happen. As she soon as she thought that the scary part was over she moved her hands, but she moved them too soon. She jumped back she was scared with horror. "Oh shit" Justin said. Justin started to laugh. "That’s not funny." Cassie said as she picked up a pillow and smacked it across Justin face knocking him off the bed.
Cassie laughed and crawled closer to the edge to make sure he was okay so Justin pulled her down on top of him and hit her with the very pillow that she had just hit him with. Somehow, Justin managed to get on top of her and hit her with the pillow. It was the most fun that Cassie had had in a while. He laughed and Cassie just laid there. Once Justin finally stopped hitting her she swept from in front of her eyes once again and smiled at him. Then something happened, something that Cassie only dreamt about. Justin leaned in and kissed her. Her heart was pounding faster than the speed of light and she kissed him back. Once Justin had realized what had just happened he sat up and stood. He helped Cassie up before saying the words that she dreaded hearing. "I’m sorry, Cassie" "For what" she asked with a smile " I didn’t mean too do that, it was a mistake." The smile that was on Cassie’s face faded away.
"I’m sorry" Justin repeated before walked over to the DVD player and stopped the movie followed by taking it out of the machine. The words tore into her and she couldn’t show it so she pretended too understand. "Its okay, It never happened" She couldn’t cry on the outside, but somehow she managed to cry on the inside. To pretend the kiss that they had just shared never happened was killing her softly. Justin cut the television off and got in the bed. Cassie got inside of the bed and faced the opposite direction. Tears flowed from her eyes slowly, but she refused to let Justin hear her.
Cassie crept out of bed and over to her bag that was on Justin’s side. She slowly unzipped the zipper and grabbed her diary before feeling around in her bag until she had grasp of her pen. She grabbed the pen stood up and made her way out of Justin’s room and onto his front porch. It was beautiful outside. It had to be about three o’clock in the morning and she didn’t care. Tears began to fall from her eyes once again as she opened her diary to a blank page and began to write.
Mood: Hurt
September 18, 2009
Dear: Diary,
Today something magical happened, Justin kissed me. But that something magical wasn’t followed by something even more magical it was followed by an "I didn’t mean to do that, it was a mistake." Right now I can’t describe this feeling that I’m feeling. My heart aches and for me to pretend that that kiss never happened is draining me. I’ve been waiting for years for that to happen, but it was an accident.
Cassie looked up for a minute when she heard a car pull up across the street.
She looked back down and continued to write some more.
I don’t know what to do anymore. I’m so tired of dealing with unrequited love, but I guess there isn’t anything left for me to do but pretend it never happened. I’m spending the night at Justin’s tonight, but I’m seriously thinking about going home right now. There’s a part of me that wished that kissed never happened, but there’s no way I could go back in time, so I guess I’ll just have to deal with it.
I’ll keep you posted…
Cassie slammed her diary shut and stood up. She looked across the street at the car that had just pulled up. There was someone still inside. She squinted her eyes, but still wasn’t able to make out who it was. She stood up and walked back into the house and got in the bed. She didn’t want too, but she did. She didn’t sleep at all next thing she knew Justin’s alarm was going off and it was 6:30 a.m.
Cassie sat up and wiped her eyes after she hit the snooze button. She looked at Justin who was sitting on the other side of the bed speechless. "You can go in the bathroom first." Cassie said.
"No, that’s okay I take a while." Justin replied
"So do I." Cassie said
"It doesn’t matter, Cassie, you can go first." Justin replied.
Cassie stood up and walked over to the bag and grabbed her clothes and headed towards the door. She stopped walking and turned and faced Justin’s direction. "You know Justin, it wasn’t that big of a deal." She walked out of the bed room before turning around once again and adding "Like I said last night it never happened, so get over it."
She turned around and made her way into the bathroom. She couldn’t believe that Justin was acting like a big baby. Twenty minutes later she came out of the bathroom and Justin went inside. She walked over to Justin’s mirror and gazed at her reflection before fixing her hair. She stood there looking at herself before knowing what had to be done. If she couldn’t get Justin the way she was; she was going to have to change the way that she was. She smiled then pouted. She walked over to her duffle bag and placed her dirty clothes inside and grabbed her cell phone and dialed Hayden’s number.
"Yea" Hayden answered in an exhausted voice.
"Are you awake?" Cassie asked."
"Barely, what’s up"
"I need a favor for a favor."
"What kind of favor, Cassie"
"I’ll come to your party tonight if and only if you give me a makeover."
"There’s nothing wrong with the way you look."
"I didn’t ask you all of that are you going to do it?"
"Come to my house directly after school."
"Will you give me a ride?"
"Just meet me in the parking lot at three."
"Alright, I’ll see you then."
"Bye" Hayden ended the call and placed her cell phone back on the nightstand.
Cassie tucked her cell phone into her pants pocket and turned on the television, her favorite show "Spongebob" was on. She had her bag at the edge of the bed. It took Justin thirty minutes to come out of the bathroom. "Are you ready, Justin" she asked impatiently. "Come on" Just replied as he placed his dirty close into a bin and grabbed his book bag. Cassie cut the power off on the television and heading out of Justin bedroom. Justin grabbed Cassie’s arm and she turned around. "Cas, I’m sorry I over reacted."
Cassie plastered on a phony before saying "Its okay, don’t worry about it. Let’s just forget that last night happened."
"Good idea." Justin agreed before they both walked down the stairs and headed out of the front door.
