The Inevitable
|
Long, long ago, a child and a mother got into a car. As they drove, the child fidgeted uncomfortably, for she did not know how this dreadful day would turn out. She had pondered, worried, and then finally dreaded this day for what seemed like years. The mother noticed the child’s worried face. She comforted her and reassured the little girl as best she could. When they reached the small brick building, a whole knew thought came to the girl’s mind. What if it did not work and they would have to do it again?! O! The thought of that was awful. Now she was sure she did not like this. Waiting for the inevitable was too much! She had enough. The little girl went up to her mother and, as politely as she could, asked if they could go home. Her mother just stared at her, and then began to grin. What was she thinking?! This is no joke! The little girl thought with a wrinkled nose. Just then, her name was called, the white door opened, and she was lead to what she thought to be her death. She was then lifted up and set on a bed with thin paper on it that made a lot of noise when she moved. She thought that this must be how they know where their “patients” are, so if they try to leave, the paper makes noise, and the “doctor” comes in so they can not. How terrible! She thought, and even her mother could not leave. But it was already too late for any schemes of escape; the lady in white came in, a so-called “nurse”. She asked the girl’s mother many strange questions, and he mother answered each with patience, the girl assumed. Then, the lady picked up, what looked like some sort of evil weapon. The girl’s eyes grew wide with fear. The lady in white told her to try to relax, and hold out her arm. Is this crazy lady going to poke that huge needle in my arm?! O no! A little tear peaked out from her eyes as she reluctantly held out her arm. “All done!” the woman said. What! Done?! This is some sort of trick! O! She is a sly one, how mean of her to make me think its over, the girl thought. Her nose wrinkled and her eyes squinted at the “nurse.” Her mother told her not to make such faces, while the lady in white put a band-aid on the girl’s arm. As they walked out, she was given a lollipop. When they finally got into the car, the mother asked her if it was so bad to get a vaccination. "Nope", replied the little girl who was devouring her lollipop.
