Untrusted Love [30]

*"Allie." Nick asks.

"Yes, Nick?"

"Will you marry me?"

She gave him a blank stare. Not saying a word. Nick.. not knowing what else to do. He starts to get nervous.*

Suddenly, Nick opens his eyes from his deep sleep, sweating. He looks around his room. His lamp is still on. He reaches over to it and switches it off making the room go dark. He looks over at his clock.

"3:00 a.m." He says in his head. He looks over at Allie who is laying on her stomach on the far side of the bed away from Nick. He studies her for awhile then relaxes his head on his pillow and drifts back to sleep, hopeing he doesn't have the same dream again.

The Next Morning

"Nick."

He opens his eyes quickly and sees Allie smiling at him. He looks over at his window to find the light shining through the closed curtains.

"It's almost 7:00." She rests her head on his chest.

Nick glances over at his clock. 6:52. He puts his arm around Allie and thinks about the ring he slipped into his dresser last night. "Should I do it soon?" He asked himself. He kisses her forehead and pulls her closer to him.

"I love you." She looks up at him and smiles.

Nick roles her over on her side to where there laying beside each other face to face. "How much do you love me?" He asks.

"A lot. More than I've ever loved anyone."

"Do you ever think about the future?" He roles over on his back, just wanting Allie to understand what he was trying to get out.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean.." He looks at her then continues. "..us. Our future."

She stares at him for a few seconds.

".. and not just the day after today. Like, future. Not a week away. Not a month. A year though. Maybe two. Do you ever think that far into the future?"

"Uhh uhh.." Allie studders. "No. I don't."

Nick looks away from her and stares at the ceiling. "Now what?" He asks himself.

"I mean, I have at least once thought about stuff like that." Allie moves closer to him and puts her head beside his arm and holds his hand then adds, "I've thought about, you know, just you and me getting a little older. Then we get married. We spend a year alone together then have baby or two. Then we grow old together. But I knew that that was way into the future so I never really thought about it again until now."

"No. That's what I'm saying." Nick sits up and looks down at her. "That's what I've been thinking about a lot. Everyday. Just you and me. The same thing you thought. I mean, not the waiting until we get older then get married, but yea, the rest of the stuff, I've thought about it. I can't stop thinking about it."

Allie sits up too. "You don't want to wait?"

"Wait?" Nick asks.

"..wait to get older until we get married?" She asks.

"No. If anything, it's better to get married sooner instead of.."

Allie starts laughing.

"What?"

"You're serious?"

"Yes." Nick says, confused.

"You're serious." She repeats her self then looks away from him and stares at the floor.

"Allie, you acutally think I would joke about this?"

"No." She looks back at him. "..no. It just came up and caught me off guard."

"Sorry."

"No, I mean.." She gets up and stands near the end of the bed and paces back and forth. ".. here we are.. talking about marriage."

"Allie.." Nick gets up and walks over to her and holds her hand.

She looks up at him. "..I can't breathe."

"Butterflies?" He asks.

"Yea, a little bit."

"There in here too." He says while moving her hand over his stomach. Then he moves her hand up to his chest so she can feel his heart beating. She smiles, knowing that it's beating for her and her only.

"I love you." Nick grabs her other hand and kisses it. A smile spreads across her face with her heart fluttering like crazy.

He steps away from her. She lets his hands go out of her reach as she watches him walk over to his dresser and open the top drawer. He looks back at her and takes a deep breath of air that just doesn't seem to want to calm his shakeing hands.

He picks the small box up then shuts the dresser. He turns around while looking at the box in his hand. Allie stands stiff across the room as she looks at the small box.

Nick slowly makes his way back over to her. He holds her hand in his and looks her in the eyes and sees tears forming and a smile being made on her face again.

"Allie.." Nick says as he leans down on one knee and looks up into her eyes, still holding onto her hand, with the box in the other. He flips the lid of it open with his thumb and holds it up so she has a clear veiw of it.

"Will you marry me?" He whispers.

A tear slides down Allie's face as she takes in a big breath of air then exhales. Nick rubs his thumb across the palm over her hand over and over again to relaxe her.

Allie smiles once more then says, "Yes."

Nick stands up on both feet and hugs her and can't hold back the tear falling down his cheek. "I love you so much." He says while picking her up and holding her tighter. She wraps her legs around his waist then kisses him. "I love you!" She laughs. Nick drops Allie on the bed and starts running toward the door.

"Where are you going?!" Allie laughs more while sitting up.

"I have to tell my dad!" He yells.

Allie giggles then picks the box up off the floor. She pulls the ring out and slips it on her finger and smiles.

"Dad!" Nick says while running down the stairs. "Dad!" He turns to his right when he reaches the bottom then rushes into his dads' room.

"Dad!" He smiles. "Allie said yes! She said yes." He walks to the center of the room. His dad didn't move any though. "Dad?"

He walks over to the bed side and shakes his dads arm back and forth to wake him. He looks at his chest. He's still breathing.

"Dad." He shakes his arm more.

Nick watches as his dad opens his eyes slowly. He smiles then says once more, "Allie said she'd marry me." with a big smile on his face.

His dad smiles at him. "Really?"

"Yea. We're getting married." He says as if he doesn't believe the words that are coming out of his mouth.

"How's your arm?"

"It's fine. It's alright now."

Nick watches his dads eyes close slowly. He looks over at the clock on the wall. 7:30. He leaves his dad to rest in his bed then rushes back up stairs to Allie.

When he gets there, he finds Allie looking in the mirror on the wall and fixing her hair. He leans against the wall and watches her.

"Allie.." He starts.

She jumps and turns around quickly.

"You look just fine." He smiles.

"I know, but I have to hurry home and change though."

"What? Why?"

"Nick." She laughs. "I have to go to school."

"Oh."

"I'll see you later after I get home." She says while walking over to him then kissing him on the cheek.

He quickly grabs her hand before she walks out of the room any further. He pulls her back in and kisses her as long as he can.

"Nick.." Allie mumbles. "I really have to go."

"No." He says. "Stay here. Skip school. Stay with me. We can run off and just get married today at a cheap church. I may not have all the money in the world, but I have a heart this is ready to love you. You just have to trust me."

"Trust you?" She asks.

"Mhm." He nods his head.

"Okay." She smiles then hugs him.

Nick and Allie held each others hand as they ran out of the house then up the road.

That day, Allie and Nick faild to get married. Allie's parents found out what they were about to do and stopped them quickly before they could act on it.

Almost a year went by and Nick and Allie were finally walking down the aisle of a not so cheap church. Nick got a job and worked hard to get the best wedding for Allie. If not "the best", then the best he could get.

Allie's parents soon didn't mind Nick and a close bond grew between them and all was at peace.

Mark came to the wedding too. He held the rings. Nick kept a close eye on him though, but had to trust him sooner or later.

A year after they were together, Nick's dad died from cancer. It was a hard time. Allie stuck by Nick's side through the months he was depressed. It soon passed.

A year later, Allie had found that she had become pregnant. About 9 months later, she gave birth to twins. A boy and a girl. They named the boy, Jake, after Nick's dad, and the girl, Lynn.

When Jake and Lynn grew up and went to college, Nick and Allie were both 57 years old. The years had changed the way they looked, but never the way the felt towards each other.

That Day

Nick held onto Allie's hand as they walked across the street. They reached the stairs that held many memories. Nick took the first step on them. Then Allie. It was the first time they both stood foot on the stairs going down to the beach in years.

When they reached the sand, Nick looked down at Allie and asked her one simple question before they were to go out into the water.. "Do you trust me?"

The End

This was the last part of "Untrusted Love". I'm crying right now. But it's happy tears. Well kind of sad because it ended. But still, some of you already know that I'm writing a new story and will be posting it soon.
