The Dreamender

Creative Created on 3-22-07 Views(199) Story Rating G

A land of mist with whispers all around, some he knows and some he does not. They are a peculiar similarity to him that he can’t place.

“Hello welcome to the land of dreams.” A tall man covered in a white cloak spoke to him

“The land of dreams?” the young man asked only hearing such things in tales
”Everything you have ever dreamt or even daydreamed about either came from this place or ended up here.”

“Everything?” he gulped just thinking of some of the thoughts that were in his head when he was alone, thoughts that he never thought he would have to answer for

”Even your dirtiest fantasy is no secret in this place; there is no reason to keep secrets here.” The young man looked around and in light of the new information he recognized some of the voices. Women saying things to him he had only fantasized about, the growls of monsters from when he was a kid.  The cold in the air gave a dark feel to the whole place.

“Why would such a place exist? I mean I’ve heard of it but I really didn’t think it existed.” He chuckled at the realism of this place that felt like a dream itself.

“Most likely for the reasons you have heard.” The young man took a deep breath as all of this was beginning to affect him from the stories.

“Just tell me cause I don’t think I have the nerve to repeat what I’ve heard been a long time.”

“The legend goes as you’ve heard it: There is a land called the land of dreams where everyone’s secrets end up. No matter how little or big they know about it and in the end you will go there and be judged for them. In that judgment you will meet the dreamender who decides your fate in this land. If you be judged good all of your happiest dreams will be lived through by your choosing. However if your judgment should be bad then your nightmares shall become reality. In these nightmares you shall live in torment with the thought that you could end this but cant.” The young man began to breathe heavy thinking about all the bad fantasies he has had in his privacy.

“How can one be judged for dreams? We can’t control that we just go through it.” He said hoping not to be judged when the dreamender came.

“Your dreams however good or bad are from deep in your subconscious, though you may not know it or accept it there is a part of you that wants these things you dream.”

“Wait a second!” he exclaimed and the tall man just stood there with the same expressionless face. “I remember some of my worst dreams and believe me I didn’t want them in the slightest.” A sound from behind him scared him because it was the one he feared the most. He turned around to see a mist cloud with a movie on it like a T.V. with his daughter.

“No…” he shook his head as he saw it through his eyes when he walked into his young daughter’s room. “Stop this right now…I went through this once and don’t need it again.” The man ignored him and watched with him as the cloud showed him killing his own daughter slowly with his bare hands then going around the house to his wife and son who would suffer the same fate. The young man collapsed in tears from the images he had hoped never to see again.

“How can you say I would want this in any way?” he got up in anger and walked toward the tall man in white.

“Everyone has a dark side to them that they either accept or reject; some don’t even know it exists. Those murders and rapist know this side and accept it in some way. Those like you don’t know what lays in that part of your heart.”

“Why would an angel like you put me through this to face the unfair judgment of the Dreamender?” At that time the man smiled which scared the young man in a sudden realization.

“When did I say I was an angel?”  The young man backed away looking all around for a place to run but in this land of mist it was hopeless.

“Who are you?” he fell to his knees knowing what his fate now was as this tall man approached him with both his hands outward. A dark mist came from his hands as he grabbed the young ones head.

“I am the dreamender…” the darkness surrounded both of them for a long journey

“And you have been a bad boy.”
