Finding my Miracle [5]

"I told you. I got hit in the face with a football. Now I don’t appreciate you being this close to me. Would you please get off of me?" I asked, trembling from his closeness to me.

"Ariel. I have seen bruises like that before and it isn’t from a fucking football! Please tell me who did it?" He pleaded. I pushed him away from me but he didn’t move at all. I could feel the moisture in my eyes threaten to spill over and run down my hot cheeks. The bell rang, telling me that I was late for class. I tried once more to get free of his grip, but it was no use.

"I can’t tell you. I barely even know you!" I screamed at him. He backed away from me with a hurt expression in his eyes.

"You know what, fuck you. I don’t need this. I wanted to help but I guess you just want to be a dumbass and let this keep happening to you," he explained as he walked away and out of the building. I wiped the stray tears away from my face and walked to the office to get a tardy slip. The woman behind the desk looked at me questioningly as soon as I walked into the plain and boring office.

"May I help you?" She asked me as she pulled out a tardy slip.

"I had some menstrual problems but I am fine now. I need a slip to History please," I explained. She filled out the slip and handed it to me. I walked to my history class and got through the school day as fast as I could.

The sunlight hurt my sensitive eyes as I walked out of the doors of the school. The cool breeze felt good on my hot body. I skipped down the long stairway and said goodbye to Riley, who had a worried look on her face, no doubt for my safety. I started walking slowly through the woodsy area leading to my own personal hell when I heard leaves crunching behind me. I turned around to find Shane standing in front of a tree, staring at me.

"Did you come to yell at me some more or just pin me up against a tree?" I asked bitterly.

"I am sorry about that, I just, I don’t like seeing you like this. Don’t ask me why, but I feel this weird protectiveness over you, like I have to protect you." He said with a small tear streaming from his eyes, only to be quickly wiped away. I stepped forward and sat down on a tree stump beside me. "If you tell me about how you got that bruise, I will tell you something no one else knows. Please tell me," He begged as he sat down in front of me. I told him about Joey. How he was a drunk and beat me all the time. He looked so angry, I thought he might punch a hole through a tree.

"What’s your secret?" I asked, trying to change the subject. He looked at me and smiled.

"I can see and hear things normal people can’t. I can see things that haven’t happened yet, and everything I see always comes true. I can hear things people aren’t saying aloud, but in their heads. I am weird, not normal. I knew everything you said without you even telling me. I saw the images of what happened as you told me," He whispered. I looked at him amazed. We sat in silence for a moment.

"What else have you seen about me?" I asked curious.

"I can’t tell you. It would freak you out, but trust me. It is good, and I will make sure it comes true," He said mysteriously. He took my hand and closed his eyes. He kept them sealed for a long moment until he leaned forward and kissed me sofly.
