So Is It Fate (11)

I saved the email and continued as if nothing had happened. I didn’t want to draw attention to myself, especially when most of the people here looked up to me. I worked through the most of the morning then decided to return Nate’s call. It rang and rang and rang, then finally went to his voice mail. I really didn’t know what to say, So, I just told him to give me a call back. An hour or so had passed and my telephone started ringing. I picked it up and it was Nate. My stomach quenched just hearing him on the other line. He asked how I was doing and if I would have lunch with him. I agreed to lunch so we could talk. The last time I’d been near him, he left in such a hurry. Almost like there was something he wasn’t telling me. Something I should know. I met him at the café where we first me. I couldn’t help but smile when I saw him walk through the door. He gave me a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. We sat down, ordered our drinks and food, while making small talk. The horrors of the last few days seemed to escape my mind. All I found myself thinking of was him and how much I liked him. Him sitting across from me smiling and occasionally winking at me made me want to freeze the moment forever. Our food finally arrived and deeper conversation started thereafter. “I am sorry. I am truly sorry,” Nate began. “I was just scared and didn’t want things moving too fast. I like you, I really do. I just, for once, would like to take things slowly that way the end result is better then my previous relationships. If I hurt you, I didn’t mean to. That is the last thing I would want to do” His eyes grew watery with each word he spoke. He truly looked as if he’d meant every word he’d said. I looked as if he cared, and this made my insides all warm and giddy. I knew that I couldn’t stay mad at him so I just smiled and told him it was ok. “Just don’t do it again,” I expressed with a strong tone to my voice. An hour had gone by and I had to get back to work. He offered to walk me back and I accepted. Together we walked the couple blocks, hand in hand. For it to be such a cold day, I felt surprisingly warm next to him. At the entrance to my building we stood just staring in one another’s eyes. Nate wrapped his arms around me pulling me in tight as he pressed his lips against mine. With on hand on my chin and the other stroking my hair we kissed for what seemed like forever. The world around us had escaped us, as if were just him and me. The kiss ended and I walked toward the door, motioning for him to call me later.
