The rain continued to fall, as the young woman laid upon the floor of the small, one bedroom house, in which she had been living with her husband for a little over five years. It wasn't the happiest of marriages, but they were in love, no matter how many times he felt he needed to remind her. Her face had often been evidence of that, and she had run out of excuses, oftentimes choosing to keep to herself in the house to avoid the awkward stares of the people in their small Indiana town. Everybody knew their story, He was the bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks, destined to be an alcoholic, ne'er do well, just like his dad. It was that destiny which he accepted, when he bought their house on the edge of town. On the wall behind the TV, is where he hung the confederate flag his father had always hung so proudly. He was a very strong supporter of the Cause, a local group of white supremacists, which had become very concerned with the growing number of black and mexican families that had started to move into the area. But tonight, the only thing he cared about was his twin boys, about to be born.
"Go in the other room, you are stressing the mother," ordered the midwife, as she pushed Luke through the doorway to the living room, before closing the door to the bedroom and locking it behind her. Luke just paced back and forth, anxiously awaiting the moment when he could meet his boys.
After nearly 15 hours of grueling pain, it was all over, Amber had given birth to two healthy baby boys, but the midwife had a look of concern on her face, as she turned around to place them in their mother's arms. She pulled the blanket back, just enough to see their faces, and Amber could see what had caused the midwife to become so unsettled. They were identical twins, and Amber knew this would cause twice as much trouble, once Luke came through that door. Their skin was a smooth cocoa brown, and their heads were full of black hair, which seemed to sit in a ball on top of their heads. She was starting to get scared now, and the babies could sense it, so they started to cry as loud as they could, catching the attention of Luke, who was asleep on the couch , just outside the door.
