Amethyst Brooks:

I ran home furious with disgust, my sister following close behind, just as furious as I.  We were fed up with those snobby cheerleaders always thinking they are better than us tomboys.  Why couldn’t they understand we were humans just like them?  We were no different, we just liked to hunt, and be play videogames and such.  This is how the fight began.  Tiffany Bennet, the heiress to the Bennet throne.  Her dad was the chief executive at Bennet Oil Company.  She lived in a mansion, with butlers there for her every need.  She was the most popular brat in the county.  Whatever she wanted, she got, including guys.   “Ew!  You freak, get away from me” Tiffany yelled at my sister Esmeralda.  Esmeralda was my little sister, but she had yet to learn how to stick up for herself.  She was 15, while I was 17.  This was our first year at Jefferson high.  We had just moved from the state of Texas to Delaware.  Tiffany Bennet, had already made #1 on the enemy list.

“You back off you snot.  Just because she is younger and a videogame guru, doesn’t mean you have the right to pick on her.”  I said sticking up for my sister.  “Who is to stop me you little hick.  Look, I am the one and only it girl, here at Jefferson.  No one dares to stand up and go against anything I do or say.  It would do you some good, to learn that now, before I pound that little brat of yours into the ground.”  She said in her snottiest voice I had ever imagined.  In answer to this rude remark I replied, “Wouldn’t you be too worried to break a nail?”  I asked, and then turned to help up my little sister.  “Thanks Amie, I really appreciate it.”  Esmeralda said looking down at her feet.  “No problem Essie, we “tomboys” need to stick together.”  I said smiling gently down at her.  Essie was Esmeralda’s nick name, while Amie was mine.  This day had not started out good, and I was afraid it was only going to turn out worse.  In Texas at our old school, Friendswood, our enemy was Gina Cross.  She was another popular girl in school, but we didn’t get in her way.

This year we needed change, we would have to prove ourselves in the mightiest ways.  Essie and I headed towards our 4th class with Mr. Deckard.  He was the head of the Social Studies department at Jefferson.  He was a man in his late 60’s and was about to retire after teaching for 30 years.  The bell rang, signaling for class to start.  “Okay class, today we are studying Texas history.”  He said in his weary voice.  Tiffany raised her hand and said, “Aren’t we in Delaware?  Why do we have to study Texas?” She said leaning her head toward the side.  She wasn’t the smartest of the bunch.  “Yes dear, but Texas History is important to all the United States.”  He said in disgust that she didn’t know that.  I giggled uncontrollably, but I wasn’t surprised that she didn’t know that.  “Is there a problem back there Ms. Amethyst?  Do I need to send you to the principles office?”  He asked taking off his black rectangle shaped glasses.  “No sir” I said giggling once more.  I turned towards Esmeralda as Mr. Deckard began teaching.  She reached for her spiral and tore out a piece of paper.  She was writing down on a sheet of paper.  I assumed that it was for me.  Mr. Deckard kept a close eye on me, but later took his focus off of me.  “’Blah blahblah Blah!’  Was all I had heard.”

Esmeralda passed a neatly folded note, that was a little crinkled, but it was pretty neat.  “Amie, can you believe how stupid it was of Tiffany to say that.  I mean, of course we are in Delaware.  Well I will see you later when we get home. J” I finished looking at the letter and then closed it back neatly.  I looked over at her desk, she was asleep which I knew wasn’t going to be praised by Mr. Deckard.  “Esmeralda!  Wake up!  Do you want to go to the principles office?”  No reply, just snoring.  “Esmeralda, young lady, go to the principles office!”  He said taking off his glasses and slamming the other hand on his desk.  She still didn’t wake up, this worried me.  He swiftly walked over to her desk and jerked her up.  He opened the door and threw her out.  My eyes went wide, my mouth dropped open, as I gazed at the sight.  He went back to the front of the classroom and taught.  Tiffany snickered at me as I sunk into my desk chair.
