My Stories

Life is FishySo, I made this for the heck of it, for laughs. I dedicate this short story to: atavanhalen, for she gave me the inspiration to write it, lol.

I hate this. Day in and day out, it’s the same old thing. Wake up, get fed, explore around, play with my toys, and do nothing. It’s not really so bad being a fish, but in this large space, swimming by myself is just so lonesome.
While swimming sometimes, I end up running into these barriers, forbidding me to swim farther. I see the objects out there and wonder why I can’t explore them. I’ve already checked out and explored everything within my area at least twenty times, if not more. Watching the trunk open up and the bubbles slowly drift off towards wherever they go.
Usually, I could watch them for quite a while, getting lost in how big they become. They glitter and shine, wiggling around floating higher and higher. But today is not one of those days where I can do that. Nothing holds my attention these days. It feels as if I’m waiting for this one thing to come into my life, but nothing has happened yet.
But being a fish isn’t always so easy. There are these disgusting creatures that dump the food into my tank. On some days while I am eating my food, they touch me! I can’t help but feel so violated! They pick me up and squish me, and take me out of my area, while I lay in their grasp, squirming around for air.
I’ve tried biting them, but it has no effect. My only hopes for survival are to either jump out of their grasp, or wait for them to hopefully put me back. As soon as I can breathe again, I quickly swim into my skull and hide away, glad to be free. I swear that one day they will be the death of me.
Today is normal, just like any other day. Luckily, it looked liked I wasn’t going to be touched by those disgusting creatures today. Do you even KNOW where they put their hands? It sends chills down my spine to be touched by that. I can feel all the bacteria just crawling all over them when they touch me.
After I’m done eating and about to swim down into my skull for a nice relaxing nap, it happens. Just like every other time, I could feel something entering my precious area. Looking around, I see the peachy appendix coming towards me. Quick as a flash, I start swimming in the opposite direction, zigging and zagging, desperate to flee from the attackers.
It was no use, as after a few moments, I could feel the gritty texture brushing over me, leaving me covered with thousands of bacteria. They continued to stroke me until I turned around a bit them. It worked, for the appendix quickly retreated away and I was left to myself.
“It serves the fuckers right for doing that all the time,” I snickered to myself. “It’s about time that they finally feel the pain that I do. Humph.”
I was just about to do my daily routine swim around my area when I felt something enter into my area. Turning around, I was ready to attack again, not wanting to be touched by the disgusting things. But to my surprise, it was not them. Well, I don’t think it was them anyways.
There in my area, my home, was something that I had never seen before! It was like the barrier that confined me and kept me from going further, but only this one was soft and moved when I swam into it. But what surprised me most was when out of nowhere, something came speeding towards me and hit the barrier right in front of me. The force at which the object hit the barrier sent me backwards.
Cautiously, I slowly swam back up to the barrier. On the other side of the barrier, I saw something swimming around frantically. With a closer look, much to my surprise I saw that there was another fish. When the other fish turned around, I saw that it was actually a female fish, and just my luck we’re the same species too. I couldn’t help but stare in wonder at her, as it has been too long since I have seen another fish, especially a female.
You see, the last other fish that I saw was my old habit buddy, and that was I don’t know how long ago. I say that he basically ate himself to death. He ate so much that he ended up bloating up really big, and he wasn’t able to move as easily. We need to keep moving so that we can continue to pump the water into our bodies. Staying still for too long can be hazardous for us. But Buddy just didn’t understand he just stopped breathing. Poor guy.
That’s all behind me now, as thoughts of her started to fill my brain. I could just picture us swimming along, talking as if we had known each other forever. I was in the middle of thinking about us talking things over inside my skull, when she was being lifted out of the area and off into who knows where.
There went my dreams. I finally had someone else to talk to, and she was taken away before I even got the chance. Pouting, I began to swim down to my skull, when I felt a change of temperature in the water. Looking upwards, there were bubbles forming, and out of the bubbles she came hurdling at me.
I heard her screaming “Whoa!” before she ended up crashing into me.
“Sorry bout that. I couldn’t really stop the forces of the water carrying me. I’m Darlene by the way,” she said rambling as she tilted her head from side to side.
“I’m Klein,” I replied while looking her over. There was nothing too ordinary about her, but still she was someone else that I could talk to.
“It’s so great to be here in this tank, with you! How exciting it is! Klein, I bet that you just love it here! This is going to be so much fun! Can you show me around?” Darlene said going off on a tangent, swimming around me in circles, nearly making me dizzy.
I was beginning to have second thoughts about her being around. She hasn’t even been here for five minutes and she’s already on my nerves. “Of course I can show you around. Let me show you one of my favorite things to do,” I said swimming off, forming an idea of how to get her to leave me alone for a while.
Soon we arrived at the treasure chest. I was in luck because it looked as if it were about to work its wonder.
“What’s with the chest? Klein, what are we doing? I’m bored,” Darlene rattled off.
“Just watch it,” I smirked.
Just then, the chest opened up, letting a stream of tiny bubbles stream out. After all the tiny bubbles floated upwards, one last bubble formed. It was about half my size and it wiggled as it was released and floated up the way the others had gone. The lid quickly shut, and then there was silence.
“What, was that?” I heard her ask in amazement. Looking over, I saw her staring at the trunk with awe, her jaw dropped.
“That was the bubble maker. It makes time here sometimes enjoyable,” I laughed.
“Klein! When will it go again? I need to see the bubbles again! Come on, tell me tell me tell me!” she whined.
“If you wait around long enough, the bubbles will go off again. You think you can wait around long enough?” I asked.
“I can, I can! Oh, I can wait! Just to see the bubbles again,” she rambled.
While Darlene was intensely watching for the treasure chest to open once again, I slowly swam off, leaving her behind. She was already giving me a headache and I just needed a quick rest, so I headed off to my skull to get some peace and quiet.
Lying down in the skull, careful not to stay immobile for too long, I decided to take a quick nap. I had barely closed my eyes when it began. It was one of the most obnoxious sounds I think that I’ve ever heard.
“Klein! Klein? Oh Klein! Where are you? Are you in the skull? I’m going to check in the skull,” I heard her annoying voice drone on. And soon enough, I heard the squeal, letting me know that she had found me.
“So Darlene, is there anything that you want to see or do now?” I said monotone.
“We could just talk about things. Talking is always fun, don’t you think Klein? I just love this skull. How long has it been here?” She droned on endlessly, as if she never stopped to catch her breath. I could no longer stand her useless chatter, and knew that I had to escape from her somehow.
I’ve heard stories that once you die, your body is flushed down a porcelain whole, and your body goes somewhere else. All fish have dreams of getting flushed down the porcelain express and being free. I knew that the only way to escape the never ending droning of Darlene was to somehow get flushed.
One day while I was near the edge of the water, where the food usually floats during feeding time, I was just floating there. Darlene was nowhere to be seen, and it was nice. But soon enough I heard her shrill voice coming my way. I tried staying perfectly still as she came near me, but it was hard to do as I was floating on my back.
“Hey there Klein! What are you up- Klein! Are you okay? Why are you floating on your back? Are you dead? No! You can’t be dead? Who will I talk to?” she cried out going into hysterics swimming around in small circles. I felt a small twang of pity that I had made her act like this, and deceived her, but I didn’t care.
As I was about to move and tell her that I was fine, I felt myself being scooped up by the disgusting creatures. They were carrying me somewhere away from my home. Panicking, I didn’t know what to do. But then I thought to myself, “What if this is how I’ll get flushed down the porcelain express?” So I stayed absolutely still until I felt myself being dropped back into the water so I could breath once again.
Within a moment, the water started moving and swirling around. I was finally on my way to freedom, and away from Darlene and her endless chatter! I was being carried away by the rushing and swirling water to only who knows where.
After a while, the water slowed down, and I popped out of some hole. Looking around me, I could see for miles and miles. It was peaceful and quiet, just how I wanted it to be. Just about all that I could ever ask for. But one thought started nagging at me. How was I supposed to get food?
I started just swimming around, wandering the new area when I bumped into something else. I saw that it was another fish.
“Hi, I’m Carrie, who are you? Are you new? I’ve never seen you here before? Would you like for me to give you a tour?” she started rambling.
“Not another one! I thought I escaped this crap! I’ve got to ditch her,” I thought to myself. “No thanks, I can manage by myself,” I said swimming away.
“I’m always here if you need me!” I heard her shout after me.
I swam up, to see if there was any food on the surface like back at my old home, but I found absolutely nothing. Maybe I should have fed before I faked my death. With a sigh, I took off once again, but I didn’t get too far when something grabbed me and lifted me out of the water.
Looking down, I saw the water getting further and further away as I was carried off to who knows where. My breaths becoming heavier with each passing moment. My last thought was, “Oh crap, I should have stayed in the tank.”
I hope that you liked my little fishy short story thing! I enjoyed writing this, and it's basically just for laughs... Tell me what you think of it! This was for atavanhalen!
