Summer of 2003. Summer Markus left to war. Summer I moved to Mobile, Alabama. Summer my entire life was about to take a drastic change for better and worse. Which one more? Personally, I think better. But who knows? God for sure.
Driving past that old house brings back so many memories that when they all hit me, I had to pull over to the side of the road, put my head against the steering wheel and bawl. 2003 changed my life forever..
2003 - Invasion of Iraq
"Markus, don't leave! I can't survive without you!!" I scream at my husband from the sidewalk of our small, Dallas, Texas ranch house.
"Aylssa," he said coming up to me and placing his hands on my tear-stained face, "I'll be back soon, I'm not going to die. I'll write everyday, I promise. Now, go in and pack, Gregory should be here soon to get you, alright?" He asked. I nodded my head and he leaned forward kissing me passionately, hands still on my face. He bent down, pick up his suitcase and got in the truck with his buddy.
I walked in the house and pulled a duffle type bag out from under the bed and began to pack my clothes, hyginie products, and whatever else I felt was needed. About after two hours of packing and hanging around the house putting covers over the furniture and what not, Gregory pulled up into the driveway. I grabbed the bag and threw it over my shoulder and walked out, making sure the door was looked tight. I pulled open the door on his truck and climb in, not in much of a mood to talk.
We rode in silence for about twently minutes until he started rambling on about the war and what his opinions of it were. Matter-of-factly, I could seriously care less. It took at least four hours maybe, I was asleep most of the time. When we got there, I surveyed the area. At least 10-13 acres, two story house, large pond in the back, and the farther back the land got, the more trees there were.
"Come on, I'll lead you to your room Aly." I grabbed my bags and then followed him into the house. In the living room where a bunch a guys, around seven, sitting around playing rock band.
"Hey guys!" Greg said looking at all of them and shaking his head. Some of them threw up their hands and others nodded. I gazed over all of them and noticed one in particular. He had brown, spikey hair and freckles spotting his nose and some parts on his cheeks. Chocolate brown eyes. In all, he was cute. I could tell right from the start this boy would probably be causing something in my life to happen.
