Chapter 1
I walk into the principal’s office to find a man sitting in a large desk typing on his computer. He looks up at me and smiles like he was constipated.
“Hello there. You must be Jade Richardson. I’m Mr. Carter.”
“Hello Mr. Carter. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Yeah, pleasure.
“Welcome to Richmond High School. I assigned you a student to help you around the school. You’ll be taking his classes so it’s much easier for you.
“I’m sorry; did you say his, as in a guy?”
“Yes. He’ll be here shortly. You can wait outside.”
“Thank you.” can my life get anymore frustrating.
Being a new student at another high school, 5th one to be exact, it’s been pretty amazing how the people react to me. Ever since my mom died when I was 4, I’ve been living with my uncle John ever since. Well… maybe I should start at the beginning.
Let’s start with my father. He isn’t what you call normal. He is half human, half… demon. Before he met my mother he was called a Son of Luke, my grandfather. Luke was a demon that went against his own kind during a great war that had happened only god knows when, centuries ago. He stood up for the humans. He even got a human pregnant, my grandmother, who made Mathew, my father and John, my uncle. When they grew up they were given each an amulet that when the two were joined, it would open the demon realm. Or, in common terms… Hell.
Before my father and mother met, my uncle and father fought each other like enemies during the “Great War” between the human and demon realm (since they had been on opposing sides). Nobody knows who won. But, as time passed, my father met my mother. And then I came into this world. I guess my parents loved each other at the time. But, when my Uncle came back to help my parents take care of me, my father tried to kill him. After their second fight, my father disappeared. Or at least this is the story I was always told.
When I was only 4 years old, my mother was killed. Uncle John took me under his wing. He had told me that I had all the powers his brother had. So ever since then he trained me in any way possible. Even fighting other demons is like testing my skills. But growing up was difficult. I could never get along with other kids. So when I would fight them, I tend to use some of my powers to hurt them. Uncle John was scared I would get caught and be taken away from him. So we moved a lot.
This brings me to Richmond high, in Southern California starting as a junior at a new school. But, I didn’t get myself into trouble this time. Uncle got himself nearly killed by other demons that I assume were assigned to kill him. We both still don’t know why, or who sent them but we had to move again. So now I’m here waiting for another student to help me with my first day of school. It wasn’t too far into the year so I wasn’t worried.
“Excuse me, are you Jade?” A random boy asked me.
“Yes?”
“My name’s Jake. Our first class is Algebra and it’s about to start, so we better hurry and get you your locker.” I couldn’t help but look at him with suspicious eyes. He had this look that made me feel week. I admit he is cute. I followed him to the administration office. We picked up my lock and locker number and quickly went through the busy halls of the school. When we got to my locker, he started to ask,
“So where are you from?”
I didn’t want to tell him but I did anyways. “Phoenix, Arizona. I’m glad I moved here to California. I don’t think I can last another minute out in that kind of weather.”
“So you move a lot? At least that’s what i’m guessing?”
“My uncle’s an auto body repairman for some company. They have him move a lot to help him start his own business.”
“Oh, you don’t live with your Parents?
“My Dad disappeared when I was born and my mom died when I was Four. I’ve been living with my Uncle ever since.”
“Well, sounds exciting. So what’s your uncle…?”
“You know people don’t really bother asking me those kinds of questions.” It was stupid, but it was all that came up for me to change the subject.
“Really, did you not get along with anybody at your other schools?” he smiled seductively. God it was sexy.
“Nope, every body said I was a demon child because I would get into so many fights,” Why did I tell him that? “I’m not the kind of person that doesn’t get along with others. Well… except you, for now at least.” I smiled at the thought.
“That’s sounds even more exciting," He said with a smirk, “We better get going. Class is about to start.”
