I Can't Love You [8]

  *Three weeks after the wedding, and things were doing okay.Ryland got a fantastic paying job, so Aira was free to be a stay-at-home mom.She takes care of Stephanie, and when Ryland gets home, they have some time to themselves.Things were doing fine... for now.*

 "Ryland?" Aira yelled upstairs. "Do you want any breakfast?"

 He smiled as he came downstairs. "Nah.Wake Steph up at 10:30 though.She has a dentists appointment that I have to drive her to." He kissed her forehead and grabbed some coffee.

 Aira nodded. "We're doing better than I expected." She smiled.

 He nodded and smiled. "When are we going to try for some kids of our own?" he pulled her close.

 Aira laughed and played with his coat. "Just say the word."

 He smiled and kissed her.He grabbed his keys and gave her one last kiss and walked out the door to go to work.Aira smiled to herself and bit her lip as she walked back into the kitchen to clean up.She looked at the clock and woke Stephanie up a little earlier. "Stephanie!"

  "Coming!" she yelled out of the bedroom.She was awake?

 Aira was confused.Stephanie never woke up before 12.She walked up the stairs, into Stehpoanie's room.Her eyes bulged out of her head. "What's going on in here?!"

  Stephanie looked over at Aira and her mouth went open but nothing came out. "Stephanie who is this and why is he in this house, in your room, without Ryland's and my permission?!"

  Aira was raising her voice. "Mom!We didn't do anything, he just came over to say bye."

 "Yeah, well, why didn't he use the front door?I would have let him in." she shot him a glance.

 He stepped infront of Stephanie. "I was afraid her brother would kill me or something."

 Aira raised an eyebrow. "You're Chris aren't you?"

 Stephanie looked down. "Yes ma'am, I am."

 Aira couldn't figure out why Stephanie was seeing him again. "Stephanie, did you guys 'make up'?"

 "Yeah, that's why he was here." she said rolling her eyes.

 Aira got even more angry. "No, I mean did you MAKE UP?! And you know exactly what I'm asking."

 "We didn't DO anything mom gosh!All we did was talk." she screamed.

 Aira crossed her arms. "Don't raise your voice at me!You, get out!And you, Stephanie, go take a shower, you have a dentists appointmen." she said fiercly.

 Chris turned to Stephanie. "She's your mom?She doesn't look much older than you."

  Stephanie scoffed. "No, she's not my mom." Then Chris left and Stephanie walked past Aira and into the bathroom.

   Aira walked into the living room and picked up a pillow and threw it against the wall.After about 30 minutes Ryland came back, and walked in.Aira was in the kitchen at the sink washing dishes.She was trying to concentrate on that but could and just dropped the plate back into the water and dried her hands.She leaned against the sink and looked out the window sighing.Ryland stood at the doorway and watched her curiously.She ran her hand through her hair, and sighed.

  "Okay, what's wrong with you?" he asked walking in.

 She turned around quickly. "Oh, you scared me!" she took a deep breath. "Steph and I had a fight."

 "Over what?Steph only gets mad at people if she doesn't get her way.And you usually give her her way." he smiled.

 Aira looked down. "I caught her with a boy in her room." She looked back up.

 His smile slowly faded. "Excuse me?" he turned and walked upstairs. "Stephanie what the H3LL?!You had a boy in your room!?"

 Aira ran after him. "Ryland, don't over react.We did the same thing remember?"

 He sighed. "I know, but Aira.."

 She touched his arm. "Come on, we were her age not too long ago." she smiled.

 "Fine, but she's going to be grounded." he said frowning.

 Aira nodded and kissed him. "You're hot when you're mad!"

 "Steph, come out here."

 She walked out looking down.Ryland lifted her chin gently. "Look, I really, really, object to the fact you had a guy in your room, but Aira and I did the same thing, so I can't say anything.But you better SWEAR to me that you didn't do anything." she raised an eyebrow at her.

 "Ryland we didn't do anything!I swear!" she started to cry.

 He pulled her close. "Don't cry, I believe you, and so does Aira.She was just upset Steph, so you owe her an apology, and you're grounded.Two weeks, no internet, and no friends coming over."

 She nodded. "I'm sorry Aira."

 Aira smiled sadly. "It's fine." She noticed how she said 'Aira' and not 'mom'.That broke her heart.

 Aira walked downstairs and waited for Stephanie to get ready for ther appointment.Ryland put his arms around her waist. "I don't like fighting with her Ryland."

 "I know." he said swaying with her. "How about we let her visit with our aunt and uncle and we spend the night in our room?" he suggested whispering in her ear.

 She bit her lip. "I like where this is going."

 He gently turned her around and kissed her. "I thought you might."

 "She's grounded though." she said kissing him back.

 "Well, it's a punishment... i guess." he smiled into the kiss.

 She walked downstairs. "Ew get a room you two!" she said laughing.

 "We'd like to." he said smiling.

 She scrunched her nose. "Ugh, too much information!"

 He kissed her again and they walked out the door.Stephanie came back in though. "I'm sorry." she hugged her. "I love you mom."

 Aira smiled and sighed with relief. "I love you too."

 *Ryland and Stephanie*

 "Don't worry, they're just cleaning your teeth Steph!" he said laughing.

 She scrunched her nose int hat cute way she always does. "I know, but I hate this place."

 "I always did too." he siad looking around.

 "Miss Stephanie?" a nurse said.

 Stephanie stood up and slowly walked into the room.Ryland smiled at her and tried not to laugh.He walked outside and decided to go to the store to get her a treat.He got her a chocolate shake and when he came back she was waiting for him. "That was quick."

 "I know.I thought so too." she said. "I'm glad though."

 He handed her the shake and she smiled. "Yes!"

 He laughed.They were driving home, and he go a call from Aira. "Hello?"

 "Hey." she sounded panicked.

 "What's wrong?"

 He heard her sigh. "Just hurry and get home, there is a man here who needs to speak with you."

 "Okay, I'll be there in a few minutes."

 They hung up and he picked up the speed. "What's wrong Ry?"

 "I'm not sure."

 When they got there, a man in a black suit and red tie was standing there talking to Aira.Aira ran over to Ryland and hugged him crying."Excuse me, who are you?" Ryland asked.

 "I'm Dennis Stratford, I'm with the Stratford Home for Kids."

 "Well, what are you doing here?" he asked.

 The man cupped his hands infront of him. "Sir, Stephanie needs to come with me."

 "Why the h3ll is that?"

 The man looked him straight in the eyes. "Someone called in an abuse report.Stephanie is being taken into state's custody."
