-Chapter Twelve-
Dear Winchester Family,
It has been a few weeks since I last saw the three of you and I would like to apologize. I am sorry for my previous behavior and I know that I should've been a much better person to all of you.
It is great here in Puerto Rico, the weather is nice and the beaches are beautiful. The sunsets never get old and I am practicing my Spanish for when the school year starts up. Lupe, Tico, and Alejandro all give you there hellos and thanks.
I hope that you are all having a nice time in Warwick, especially you Becca. I also hope that you aren't missing my obnoxious behavior too much.
Sincerely,
Jackie
I reread the letter a few more times before coming to a conclusion. It may be a little formal but it would do. Its length would not be a problem since they probably would rather read a short one than a lengthy one.
"That looks nice." Lupe commended and I jumped up in surprise. How long had she been standing there?
"Er... well... thank you."
"Now I am not going to make you redo it but don't you think it is a little too short?"
"No."
"Okay then." She grabbed the paper and tsked it but left without another word. I sighed but sunk down deeper in the chair. Now that that was over with I was free to go back to doing whatever I was doing before.
This, of course, was nothing.
I stood up and paced back and forth. There is always something to do, if anything I could just walk along the beach or go down to the pier. That idea sounded fine besides it was a nice day so a walk along the beach would be nice.
I walked past the kitchen to fine the boys relatively calm but once they saw me they erupted into laughter. "What the hell you two? It wasn't even that funny!" I shouted but I did not get the answer for another minute or so.
"It was when you jumped!" Alejandro said through giggles and I glowered at him blackly.
"Oh will... you two... just..." I couldn't think of a clever counter so instead I just trudged out of the room. They were impossible! So now I was nothing but a joke? That boy better learn how to sleep with his eyes open.
The bronzed sand stuck to the bottoms of my feet but I was careful not to bother the algae that washed up onto the shore. I couldn't stand the feeling of the slime. The sunset was nearing but blue still dominated the skies. There was not a single cloud in sight which made the sun feel overwhelming. It had to be at least ninety or even a hundred degrees out here.
The pier was in sight but it was farther away than it looked. If it had been midday the haze of the sun ray would've made it look more like a mirage, but it was at least seven or eight o'clock at night. I began to wonder what it looked like in Warwick. Was it sunny or gloomy?
I hit my head in frustration. I should not even think about that place.
In many ways I like Puerto Rico a lot more than I liked Warwick. The weather was nice and so was the company but there were a few things I missed from Warwick. My car was one of them but the other one was Becca. Her witty remarks and know it all behavior was something that I found not only charming but I admired it.
Wood creaked under my feet as I stepped along the pier. I wasn't sure how old this wood was but it was most certainly not new. I sat on the edge and stuck my legs out to skim them across the water.
"Don't worry I promise we won't laugh."
I groaned and glared at the two boys who sat down beside me. "I came out here to get away from you."
"Yeah, I know."
"So, Sonny, you're from the states..." My voice dripped sarcasm but I thought it would be better to strike up a conversation rather than listening to the silence.
"Yep, he sure is."
"I was asking Sonny."
"He doesn't talk." Alejandro said simply and my forehead creased.
"But you said he..."
"Yes, he can talk, but he doesn't like to." He explained and Sonny nodded.
"Well why the hell not?" I demanded and they shrugged in unison.
"He just doesn't like to."
"That's a stupid reason."
"You never said it had to be a smart one." His response called out a memory of Becca and me. My insides tightened and my fists clenched.
"You're absolutely right." With my teeth gnashed together it came out no more than a whisper.
"Well, damn, why are you so angry?"
"I am not angry!"
"Fine, call it whatever you want."
"Why are you even out here?" I replied once my body had calmed down an octave.
"It's pretty boring in there."
I looked over at Sonny curiously. A person who didn't like to talk? Now in my opinion that was just extremely strange. I loved to talk and express my beliefs but to just sit back and listen while everyone else conversed was just unbearable.
He met my gaze and quickly turned back to face the ocean. I guess he was attractive with his small Mohawk gelled to perfection and dark brown eyes, but his looks weren't something I was paying attention to at the moment.
"What is it you don't like about talking?" I gave Alejandro a sharp glance and he closed his mouth. Sonny looked over at me and shrugged and that was all I was to expect. "So like if a teacher calls on you in school you wouldn't answer?"
"I talk when necessary." His deep voice thick with his Spanish accent surprised me. I hadn't anticipated him to answer my question.
"That will probably be the first and last time I hear you talk, right?" I heard Alejandro chuckle under his breath as Sonny nodded and I rolled my eyes.
Of course.
(Author's Note: I am not trying to spoil anything but no there will be no romance in this story. Sorry for those who hope for that but I don't want to write another romance there are way too many of them on this site. I usually would've waited a day or so to write another chapter but I enjoy writing this story too much.)
(Oh, and if you haven't-I am sure most of you have though-subscribe because I don't post people.)
