Chapter 8
On the way home, I ask Jason for Kendra’s number, so I could call her at any time I wanted to, so he did.
“Are you sure she won’t mind?” I ask him.
“Nah, she’ll be thankful.” He smiles.
Man Jason, you smile too God damn much! I laugh to myself, as we step up onto my front porch.
“Hey, you didn’t want to stop and get something to eat did you? I guess I was rude not to ask you sooner.” Jason apologizes.
“Nope, that’s alright. I’ll find something inside anyhow.” I tell him. “I’ll see you later.”
“Yeah,” he said, walking off the porch. “I’ll see around.”
I smirk as he walks down the street. I open the door and see my dad standing right there. I jump.
“Dad, what are you doing?” I question.
“You were with him again.” He chuckles.
“Yeah and your point,” I reply.
“I know you like him. Don’t play stupid.” He smiles.
“I’m not and I don’t know why you’re talking about this.” I say, walking around him. I know he’s shaking his head at me right now.
“Ok, maybe I do have feelings for him, but does that bother you?” I ask.
“No, he actually seems like a pretty good guy for you. I approve.” He said.
We both laugh. “I’ll be outside if you need me.” I tell him.
First I go downstairs to grab my diary under my bed and then I come back up stairs and stroll outside. A nice cool breeze hits my face, sending my wavy golden brown hair in every direction. I tuck my hair behind my ears as I sprawl out underneath the tall oak tree. I open up my diary and realize my pens still in there. I decide not to put “Dear Diary,” so I start to write:
I’m getting better around here. I just met another friend, Kendra, who happens to be a step sister of Jason’s. She’s very pretty. I wish I would look a lot like her. I feel ugly when I’m in school. Idk why, I guess it’s just cause everyone makes fun of me. But either way, as I said before, I’m getting use to it around here.
I hear my dad calling for me, so I left my diary outside by the tree.
“Yeah Dad,” I say, walking in through the back screen door.
“Someone’s on the phone for you.” He replies.
I take the phone from out of his hands as he walks back into the living room. I answer: “Hello?”
“Rose its Kendra.” She said.
“Oh hey, I guess Jason gave you my number.” I smile.
“Yeah, he also said that you live right up the street too. How cool is that?” she responds, and I knew she was smiling.
“Very.” I reply.
“So did you make the move to tell Jason yet?” she asks.
“No and I don’t think I can. I told you this already. I really like Jason, it’s just I don’t have the guts.” I tell her.
She sighs. “Ok, ok I understand. I just really think you two should be together. Do you want him to come to the phone?”
“I don’t think so. I can always talk to him tomorrow at school or something.” I tell her.
“Ok, I’ll see you tomorrow, bye.” She says.
“Yeah bye,” I end and hang the phone up on the hook.
I ran back outside to get my diary so I could go downstairs in my room, but as I get out there, my diaries gone. I look all around the tree, and every inch of the backyard.
“Great!” I said aloud. “Now I misplaced my diary, unless someone took it.”
(Authors Note: So you all know, Kendra has the phone on speaker and Jason’s actually sitting besides her, listening to every word Rose is saying, but she doesn’t know that.)
