Chapter 18

I let go of Kendra and smile over at her.

"Kendra I gotta go. I don't mean to leave so soon, but I really must go. School's almost over for the day and my dad will flip if he found out I wasn't home on time." I tell her.

She wipes a tear that barely made it to the side of her cheek. "No, that's fine I understand. I'll see later. I might call you tonight, but don't know." she says. "Bye."

"Yep, bye." I reply, getting up of the bench I was sitting on.

I take Jason's hand and he lead me down to the parking lot to where his truck is.

"I guess you don't want to go see a movie tonight do ya?" Jason sighs.

"Any other time I probably would, but I'm just not up for it now." I insist, hoping in to the passenger seat of his Dodge truck.

Jason puts the keys in the ignition and starts it up, letting the engine roar. "Nah, I understand. It's not problem."

On the way home, everything was silent. It starts pouring down raining in the mean time. It was pounding so hard against the windshield that I couldn't even hear my own thoughts. It began to die off a little as Jason pulled into my driveway in front of the garage. He let the truck run as I was about to get out but before I did I gave him a peck on the cheek.

"I'll see you tomorrow Jason. Maybe we can go to the movies then." I state.

"Maybe," he replies.

We say good-bye to each other and then I jump out of his truck and rush inside the house as quick as I can, as the rain starts getting heavier. It never fails; that's how it always is.

"Hello?" I shout across the empty house. It really creeps me out when I'm home alone.

I close the front door behind me and walk over to the kitchen. I put my backpack on the floor that I had left in Jason's good looking truck while we were at the fair. I notice something very odd once I reach the kitchen counter. It was my diary that I have been searching for the past few days.

I pick it up and search through all the past entries I had written in them. Everything was the same.

"How odd?" I said aloud. "Why would I have found this here?"

I grab it and an apple out of the fruit basket that was in the middle of the island in the kitchen then I slowly walk down stairs to my room and turn on the lights at the last minute. Suddenly, I see the same ghost-like figure as I did down at the county fair. I shriek.

"Calm down! Haven't you seen a ghost before?" It says to me.

"Y-You c-can talk!" I stutter.

"Of course I can talk, why wouldn't I?" he replies.

"Are you really a ghost?" I ask it, even if I do feel stupid.

"Yeah, I'm a ghost and no I don't go 'BOO,' but if you want me to I can." he tells me.

"Why are you in my room anyways? And who are you?" I question.

"Names Caleb Evans, I'm really close to you and your family."

My eyes went blank. "Why haven't I heard anything about you?"

"I'm suppose to be kept a secret from you for a while. Right now, you are the only one that can see me, so no one will believe you that you actually saw me, because I'm dead."

Wow, I couldn't believe I was actually talking to a dead guy, even though it's kinda scary.

"So are you like related to me somehow?" I ask Caleb another question. I'm chalk full of them now.

"I can't say." he responds.

"Why not?" I state.

"It's very complicated." Caleb says.

Suddenly I hear voices upstairs. My parents are home.

"I've gotta go." Caleb lets me know.

"Wait! Don't-" he was gone, "go." I whisper.

For some reason, I felt so close to Caleb as if I've known him forever.
