Chapter 23

As we hopped onto the bus, we waved good-bye to the city that made us feel like we were actually worth something. It bothered me a lot. Every time I would hear about Las Vegas I was shattered. It really hurts us all.

On the way back home on a bus full of people heading cross country, we had fallen asleep. I don’t know who’s shoulder I was sleeping on, but it was funny I don’t know why.

It was a long way back home to Waverly, Missouri, in Lafayette County; with like around eight hundred people left. It’s crazy, but the three of us love it in a small town and everyone treats you like a normal person there. It’s great. As the bus dropped us off in St. Louis, we had to take a cab to Waverly, because the town is so small, the bus only stopped in cities. When we got into the small town, it seemed almost deserted, but that’s how it always was.

The cab dropped us in front of Frizz and Frizz and Joliet was standing out on the front porch. She was a little startled by us coming in from a cab, but when she saw us she ran up to us giving us a big hug.

“The entire town watched y’all three perform on stage last night. Y’all were amazing! Why’d ya come back so soon? And what’s with the long faces?” she asked many questions at once with her southern little accent. We all looked back at each other.

“We were basically fired from our job.” Jesse stated.

“Y’all were what?” she jumped back. “Why would you have been fired, if everybody though you were great?”

“We don’t know, but that there were issues with the company being sued tons of money from someone else they had done business for.” Travis explains.

“Well that’s not good, but I’m sure that you’ll find another great deal with someone else.” Joliet insisted.

“I hope so,” I whispered.

Joliet paced inside as we stood out there for a while in silence, until we decided to go inside. We walked inside the restaurant and my mom and dad, along with Travis and Jesse’s mother were in there. It was like they knew were coming home.

“Mom! Dad!” I cheered, as I ran to them giving them a big hug. I loved my family to death, and that was really the longest I’ve ever been away from them.

“Joliet told us everything. You guys were so awesome out there.” My mom smiled.

“Yeah I know.” I replied.

I saw Travis and Jesse over at their mom, Gina. It was always so sweet to see them together. I don’t know why, but it made me smile.

“So, why were you all here?” I asked.

“Well, Gina thought that we should throw a party, now and when you got back, but now you’re here, so we can do it now.” She stated.

I sighed. “I’m not really in the party mood if you know what I mean.”

“Cheer up kiddo.” My dad told me. “I bet you there will be many of opportunities in the New Year. It’s rolling around pretty quickly.”

“I hope you’re right Dad, I hope you’re right.” I grinned.

And that entire night, we had a big party right there at the Frizz and Freeze. A lot of people came; more than we had expected, but it was great to know we had many people who loved and cared about us.
