Chapter 9

Once I realize I still have my t-shirt on, I pull in over my head and throw it in the sand. I run out into the water behind Lucas and sit on my board waiting for the perfect wave.

I keep wondering on what I missed. Just one day with Lucas and they look so happy to be here. I'm glad, but I don't know. It's not like I have strong feelings for either of them. (Realize I only said 'strong feelings.')

"Dude, that one's for you," Lucas states, pointing to the great wave right before our eyes. I nod and start paddling out. As soon as I know the wave in right behind me, push myself up onto the board, putting my arms out just slightly to keep my balance, but normally I don't have to do that. I ride the wave patiently, and then do a 180. That's the best I can do so far.

I could hear them all clapping, even Lucas, but I can tell that he's going to show off and do something better. That's just how he is.

"Now, watch the pro show you how it's done," he insists, hoping that the girls heard him.

He does the same routine, paddles out to the next big wave, gets up onto the board, but instead of doing a 180, he did a 360. I had to roll my eyes because, Lucas just thinks he the "God of Surfing." It really pisses me off though because we're both on the surfing team for school, and obviously he has to show me all the little details I did wrong.

After we surf a bit, we decide to head down to the pier and grab a bite at Hank’s Cabana, which is a mix of Mexican and seafood. I love it, and I’m sure the girls will too.

“Wow, they don’t have food like this in Kansas,” Connie states, as she stares at all the food on the menu in front of her.

Lucas and I give each other a look, knowing that that was expecting.

“Well, don’t you remember Fiery Chicken Buffet? They had just about everything there.” Leila retorts to her.

I smile to myself. I remember that place to because every Sunday after church my family and Leila’s family always got together there. Those were the good ‘ole days.

“Oh yeah, I remember now, but I never really thought that place was that good. I don’t know I just think it’s too bland and not enough flavor.”

Leila laughs. “Whatever you say-”

As soon as we order our food, we finally had sometime to chat. We didn’t really get time to talk lately.

“So, how long did it take you two to learn how to surf? I mean two looked pretty freakin’ amazing out there.” Leila asks, pushing her hair behind her ears.

“Well, Lucas knew how to surf since he was five, so he’s more of a pro than I am.” I tell her. “I’ve only learned to surf for about seven years or so.”

“That’s still good. You’re still considered a pro.” Connie announces.

“Man, I wish I knew how to surf that good.” Leila sighs looking down at the table.

“We can give you lessons if you want?” I insist.

“Are you sure?” she hesitates.

Lucas smirks. “Of course, we’d love to spend more time with two anyways, right bro?”

 “Yeah, it’s no problem at all.” I smile.
