Chapter 10

As we finish up at the restaurant, I realize that Jasmine never came. I was too caught up in the moment that I didn’t even think of my own girlfriend. What an ass. So I pick up my phone that I had laid on the table in front of me. I quickly I dial her number and put the phone up to my ear.

“I’ll be back; I need to make a quick phone call.” I tell the three at the table.

They nod their heads and went back to talking, about what ever it was they were talking about. I seriously wasn’t paying attention. I walk away from the table for a moment, but no answer.

“Bradin, where have you been? I have been waiting for you.” I turn around with the phone still pressed to my ear. Jasmine stands right in front of me; arms cross over her chest and foot tapping and waiting for an answer.

“I thought that you were coming with us to watch Lucas and I surf?” I ask, hoping that was a good enough for her, but of course it wasn’t.

“I thought you were going to stop by and at least see me this morning, but clearly I see you are having more fun with them to worry about me.” She raises her voice, and had the feeling at the back of my neck that people in the room were staring at her and I. Just great!

“You knew that I was hanging out with Lucas today. You were the one that didn’t show up. If you wanted to come, you should have showed up. You know where we normally surf.”

Jasmine grins. “You know what? Fine! If you wanna hang out with them, more than you want to be with me, so be it. I’m done.”

After the long lecture that she gave me, she just walks out of the restaurant with her hands in the air. I can feel my face getting red, but I just smile to myself and walk it off back to the table, as everyone went back to what they were doing, instead of it being silent.

“What’s up with her?” Lucas questions, trying not to laugh at what had just happened.

“Don’t worry about. She’s just pissed that’s all.” I retort, taking a seat at the table. The girls were smiling, but I know they are just holding back the laughter.

“Well we better get going,” Leila says, getting up out of her seat as Connie follows.

“So soon?” Lucas replies.

“Yeah, we need to get back before our parents get cantankerous.” She states, trying to sound cool with her big vocabulary.

“No problemo! We’ll see ya around.” he tells them.

We say our good-byes and the girls were out.

“So, what Jasmine pissed about?” Lucas inquires.

“She’s jealous because I was you and the girls and not her.” I reply, rolling my eyes.

“Man, just let it all go. She’ll get over it someday. Plus, we’ll prolly wanna hang with the girls more often. Didn’t you and Leila know each other when you were younger?”

“Yeah, but she doesn’t remember. She was in a car accident, so she has no memory of our past.”

Lucas pauses. “Well, that must suck… but Leila is pretty good-looking don’t you think?”

I look at him, oddly. “I have a girlfriend Lucas.”

“I know that, but a bro can tell their bro if they like a girl, even if they are with another. It’s no harm.” He insists.

I hesitate for a bit until I answer with “Yeah sure, I guess so.”

Lucas chuckles. “See that wasn’t too hard. Come on, we better get going if we want to catch the evening waves.”

“All right! Let’s go!” I cheer, though I regret telling Lucas that I sort of liked Leila because it always comes back around.
