Lydia walked back into the living room after her shower feeling much better than she had moments before. She looked at the clock which read: 3:26, and sighed. It was way too early to be this wide awake and she knew it.
“Hey baby.” Sam said, trying to cheer her up, as she walked in. She smiled and sat on the couch next to him, cuddling into his arms.
“Is Emily asleep?” She asked quietly once she was comfortable.
“Yeah, she was a pretty tired little girl. You should get some sleep too you know.” He whispered into her ear.
“I know, but I’m not tired. Showers wake me up. Do you have to work tomorrow?”
“Nah, I’m going to skip. I’ll just say I’m worried about Emily. They’ll be fine with it.” He smiled that gorgeous smile of his and laid his head on top of hers.
“Good, you can help me with my plans then.” Sam sat up suddenly, his body stiff.
“Plans?” He questioned.
“Yes. You know what plans I’m talking about. The ones that get me to talk to Enphinious. I’m going to do it, especially now, after this.” She pointed around the room and Sam sighed loudly. “You promised.” She reminded him coolly.
“Okay. Okay. I’m sorry.” He looked down defeated, “I’ll help.”
“Don’t look so sad, it’s not the worst thing I could ever do.”
“It’s getting up there though. You know you’re a pretty dangerous girl.” Sam laughed and hugged her tight. “I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“I think I should plan a suicide, like I was going to do in my dream. Something that would be easy to fake and still make it seem real enough that he’d come. I think that you would have to be standing with your video camera because I don’t know if I’ll be able to see him. But you’ll have to be hidden.”
“Wow, you’ve really thought this through haven’t you?”
“Yes.” She sighed, “I just really need to talk to him.”
“Lydia look, I’m going to help you with your plans. But I need to get some sleep first. Will you please come to bed with me?” Sam pleaded. Lydia looked up, he did look tired. Purple circles were under his eyes and his face seemed to be blank, expressionless. She nodded quickly.
“Yes, I’ll come with you. I can tell you need sleep.” He smiled slightly and they stood up and went to bed together.
“Who would you choose?” A voice echoed through the blackness of the room. At her feet Lydia saw Jacob’s ashes, smoldering in front of her. “Who would you choose?” The voice repeated.
“Who are you?” Lydia demanded, spinning around to look for the voice.
“Who would you choose, Sam or Joey?” The voice asked again, it sounded like it was getting closer.
“Why does it matter? I can’t be with Joey! He’s dead!” She screamed as loud as she could, but the voice didn’t seem to hear.
“Who would you choose Lydia?” A man’s voice, it sounded oddly familiar, oddly intriguing.
“I don’t want to choose!” She shouted, tears streaming down her face.
“Who would you choose, Jacob or Emily?”
“Why do I have to pick?” She fell to the ground crying, “Why?”
“If you loved them, you would.” Enphinious’s face appeared through the darkness. Lydia looked up at him, face drenched in tears.
“What do you mean?”
“You can’t have them all,” was all he said as Joey, Sam, and the babies all came out of the darkness as well.
“W-“ The room darkened again and she was left sitting there alone.
They awoke later in the afternoon, around three, to sunlight streaming through the windows. The rain had all but dried up and nothing was left but small drops held in the leaves of the trees.
“Are you okay?” Sam asked as soon as they had stretched and sat up.
“Yes. Why?” Lydia responded.
“You were screaming and…” He touched her cheek softly and wiped away a tear, “crying.”
“Oh, nightmare, yeah.”
“I thought so.” He smiled the smile Lydia loved and kissed her softly.
“So, onto plans I guess.” She said after a moment and Sam nodded.
“So, how are you going to kill yourself then?” Sam asked in a sarcastic tone as they sat in bed, contemplating their plans.
“I haven’t decided yet, how would you do it?” She asked, smirking as he narrowed his eyes in thought.
“Me personally? I would probably take pills, but that would be too risky for you.” He smiled, “I think you should pretend you’re going to jump off a building.”
“Won’t that cause too much attention down below?”
“Not if it’s in a secluded area. Besides, those things aren’t like in the movies, just because it looks like someone might jump, forty or fifty people don’t come running up and shouting. Usually there’s only like one or two if anything.”
“And how would you know this?”
“I lived in a big town for a while; I’ve tracked a lot of deaths.” He chuckled, “Didn’t you watch those videos?”
“Well, yeah true. Good point.” She paused, “So, where are we going to find this big secluded building?”
“South Africa?” He laughed before finishing, “Nah, the old Johnson warehouse a mile out of town.”
“Oh, alright, do you think you could take me there today to see it? I mean, plan everything out and all that shit?”
“Yeah, but what is there to plan out? All you’re going to do is walk to the top and act like you’re going to jump.”
“But there has to be a perfect spot. So you can be hiding with the camera and have a good view.”
“Oh, I see. You’re right.” He paused again, “Why don’t we go now?”
“Sure. Maybe we should eat first though.”
“Yeah. Alright.” They smiled at each other before going to the kitchen and eating a quick breakfast. The conversation during breakfast was awkward. Lydia could tell Sam still didn’t like the idea of her doing this, but she knew that she couldn’t not do it either. She had to contact Death; there was nothing else to it.
ARTISTS NOTE: Please look at this. I have a few questions for all of you and things to tell you.
- The new title of the book is Beautiful Death
- What do you think of the new title?
- What should be on the cover of the book?
- Who do you think Lydia should choose out of Joey and Jacob or Sam and Emily?
- Would any of you be willing to purchase a copy of the book when it is published?
- I have the book finished already and have two endings. Once you guys answer these questions I will be able to get more into the publishing process. So please help me out here...
Thanks!
Cassie
